I’m incredibly excited to welcome you to our campaign, but before I go any further, let me first tell you more about who I am and why I made the decision to run for Congress in New York’s second district. {NAME}, I never had ambitions for higher office. After my family immigrated from Jamaica, I believed the best way I could give back to the country that welcomed me with open arms at the age of seven was by enlisting in the Army. I served nearly three decades before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. But still, I knew my work was far from done. I looked to my community on Long Island, where I saw so many of our young people struggling to find their path in life. I became an educator and guided students through the difficult school-to-career transition so they could build a thriving future. But still, I knew my work was far from done. In my home of Babylon, New York, I heard time and again from families worried about their access to affordable health care, their ability to afford a good education, and the safety of our communities. So, I ran for town council to be their voice and fight for them -- and I won. But still, I knew my work was far from done. But I care deeply about New York and this district. It’s the home I found through the neighbors, educators, and community members who embraced me as a young girl when my family immigrated from Jamaica. I refuse to sit by and watch these very people struggle to afford health care, work off crippling student debt, or pay for child care. I'm running to be a representative that shows up, listens, and works day and night to make progress on the issues we’re facing.
