Allow me to share the rules I live by. Other personal finance experts love to squawk about #2. Can't view this email properly? [View in Browser]() {NAME}, Allow me to share the rules I live by. (Other [personal finance experts]() love to squawk about #2.) These simple yet effective guidelines are what drive a truly Rich Life. Ramit sleeping My values include being able to take a nap whenever I want. 7 rules for your Rich Life Rule #1: Your Rich Life is yours. YOU get to decide what an exciting, fulfilling life looks like. You’re in the driver’s seat! Plenty of times in my life, people have told me I was making the wrong decision. Like when I turned down a job offer from Google to join a startup. Or when I rejected venture capitalist funding for IWT. Maybe those choices would’ve been right for someone else. But part of my Rich Life is maintaining control of my time and my business. So those weren’t the right decisions for me. Rule #2: Buy all the fancy coffee you want. Despite what many financial experts preach, cutting out your daily latte won’t significantly change your financial life. You know what actually will? Learning how to automatically invest, how to select the right asset allocation, and how to negotiate a $15,000 raise. I call this “[focusing on the Big Wins]().” Ramit's Big Wins Rule #3: Don’t aim for perfection…just get started. If you get overwhelmed by the idea that you need to do everything perfectly, you know what usually happens next: You end up doing nothing. Getting ahold of your finances can seem like a big, scary ask. So don’t ask yourself to get there right away! Instead, aim for “good enough.” (To get started, check out my program [Money Coaching]().) Rule #4: Play offense, not defense. It’s YOUR money. You can’t afford to be passive about it. Instead of looking at your statements every month (or worse, ignoring them) and saying, “Well, I guess that’s how much I spent,” create a financial system that supports your Rich Life before anything else. This involves doing things like calculating the Phantom Costs of your next big purchase BEFORE you plop down your credit card — because [it might just cost way more than you think](). [Excerpt from NY Times article]() The New York Times recently interviewed me about the true cost of Apple’s Vision Pro. [Read the full article here](). Rule #5: It’s OK to make mistakes. In fact, I encourage it. Make mistakes early, when the stakes are lower. You’ll learn valuable lessons without risking your entire savings account. And once you get your Money Machine dialed in, you’ll be confident that your system works. [How to automate your finances]() This simple system forms the foundation of your Money Machine. You might even make a mistake designing your Rich Life when you first get started. After a while, you might realize that what you thought was your Rich Life…actually isn’t. And that’s totally fine! Rule #6: There’s no limit to earning. Inside Money Coaching, we look at your limiting beliefs around money. I call these “money scripts,” and whether you know it or not, you probably have some. Your money scripts inform how much you think you can earn. They color decisions around what jobs you take (and don’t take), whether you decide to start a side business or not, and what feels most important to you. They’re some of the most important thoughts you don’t know you’re having. Feeling like you MUST own a home to “be an adult” is a common money script. And I’ll show you [8 more inside Money Coaching](). Rule #7: Live your Rich Life NOW. The goal of a Rich Life is to enjoy today and every day after. Not to postpone joy for some far-off future date. No one wants to be a rich 95-year-old with regrets. Ramit and his wife My wife and I take multiple months off to travel every year. That’s part of our Rich Life. What does yours look like? Join us and start living your Rich Life now If you believe, like I do, that living a small life is a tragedy, you should join me inside Money Coaching. Plus, it’s got practical advice on how to automate your saving and investing so you never have to think about it. And it includes access to a community of peers who are doing exactly what you’re doing. Inside the private Money Coaching Slack, you’ll meet hundreds of people who are building their Rich Lives — with plenty of joy along the way. Your Money Coaching classmates will help answer your questions. They’ll celebrate your wins with you. They’ll troubleshoot your challenges.
