Don’t just tolerate your career

But let’s be honest — are there things that nag at you, that you just “deal with”? Like these things: - You could use a higher salary - You sometimes get stuck late at work doing others’ “busy work” - You have a commute that drains you - Your boss and coworkers are “meh” - You’re making decent money, but not learning or growing anymore - You were promised you could work from home, but there’s chatter about “returning to the office” (or you have already!) If so, I urge you to look ahead and work your way backwards to see if you’re on track to living a Rich Life. Align your career and Rich Life Ramit resting It took me years to engineer my perfect career. When people have nagging career issues, they simply tolerate their jobs and look forward to the weekends and vacations. This is not living a Rich Life! It’s much better, and more proactive, to create a vision for your ideal life…and then work backwards to see how you can make it a reality. For example, maybe your Rich Life involves more time with your kids. You don’t want them growing up being latchkey kids. Great! So take a good hard look at how you’re spending your time. Maybe you have a long commute that robs you of precious hours and drains your energy. Could you negotiate working remotely? Maybe you can’t do the entire week, but start with a day. That’s already more time with your kids! And if you like most parts of your job, a return to the office once or twice a week would be an acceptable trade off.
