On Monday, I introduced the concept of a RICH Career. Each letter represents Can't view this email properly? [View in Browser]() {NAME}, On Monday, I introduced the concept of a RICH Career. Each letter represents a pillar that’s important to building a fulfilling career. I told you that “R” stands for Relationships. And by relationships, I don’t mean coworkers and bosses. Do you have a network of trusted advisors you can go to for advice, jobs, and other career-related topics? Ramit and his mentor Jay Abraham, my mentor who helped shape my career. If not, I’m going to be doing a free, live class called Beyond Networking: The top skills you need to build authentic relationships. It’s happening on Monday, January 29, at 8pm Eastern / 5pm Pacific. [Click here to reserve your spot](). I won’t be sharing any slick tricks on slipping your business card to people at networking events. Everything will be about building amazing, authentic relationships. Yes, you can do this even if you’re an introvert. I’ll show you next Monday. [Beyond networking]() Today is about the “I” in RICH Career It stands for Income. As a society, we’re too modest about income. We love hearing stories about Warren Buffett and how he lives in a modest house in Omaha. [But they also conveniently forget to mention he has a private jet](). Ramit featured on magazine People love talking about incomes because how much you earn has a massive impact on living your Rich Life. It determines where you live, what you eat, how much you vacation and where, how much you can save and invest, what age you can retire, and how much you can spend on the things you care about. But far too many people approach income from a place of fear. They’re sitting back on their heels, waiting for life to happen to them. They hope and hint for an annual raise, a promotion, or a bonus, and most years they’re disappointed. And people stay on that path, thinking that if they just put the time and effort in, whatever job they have now will make them rich and happy. [Ramit Sethi]() [I challenged Men’s Health readers to ask, “How can I use money to get that?”]() You’ll see people say “I'm a dog walker now…so my next step is I’ll MANAGE dog walkers and then I’ll manage the dog walking managers and then…” and they have no idea how much a dog walking manager makes or if that job even exists! Your income ties so closely to the things you want to do in your life, why are you leaving it up to chance? It doesn’t make sense! If you want to be a dog walker, that’s fantastic, but be intentional about it. Know what your life looks like in five years. Know what the benefits are and what the limitations will be. Be intentional with your career. Don’t just sit back on your heels, waiting around. Think bigger about your income As you progress throughout your career, your income should go up. Sometimes by big leaps! A $10,000, $25,000, or even $50,000 raise shouldn’t be uncommon. This kind of money gives you more options. You can turn up your [Money Dials](). Ramit and his wife As my earnings went up, I started traveling for 1–2 months at a time. An easy way to think about the income you need for your Rich Life is to work backwards. For example, start with a big dream. “I want my kids to not have to stress over student loans like we did.” Great! I love it! Now break it down: - What would it cost to help them pay down loans? An extra $500 a month? - Can you get there by cutting expenses? (Probably not) - Can you get there with a raise? Yes! You can probably go beyond $500. There’s a limit to how much you can save, but no limit to how much you can earn. The bottom line: Get impatient with your income. Sure, you should be thankful for what you have. But as I like to say, live a Rich Life today…and an even Richer Life tomorrow. Ramit's post about Forget a $75,000 salary Yes! Forget a $75,000 salary. Go after a $40K raise! A much quicker route to your desired income Here’s the real secret: The fastest, easiest way to get the income you want and deserve is through your relationships. Your relationship with your boss is how you get a raise. Your relationships with the people in your network is how you get a higher paying job. So in a way, the “I” in a RICH career also stands for Relationships. Just imagine if you have someone in your corner vouching for you when you apply for a job. Or even 3–4 people praising you, saying “Hire this one, they’re good.” You’ve just separated yourself from the “average applicant” pile. [Beyond networkin]() I’ll be showing you how to build these kind of amazing, authentic relationships in Monday’s live event. You’ll see how it’s possible to grow your income by leaps and bounds with the right relationships. [Click here to save your spot](). Stay tuned for the rest of my emails this week. I’ll be sharing the other parts of a RICH Career. A Rich Career [Signature] P.S.
