Look, starting an online business isn’t for everyone. Just like writing a book Can't view this email properly? [View in Browser]() {NAME}, Look, starting an online business isn’t for everyone. Just like [writing a book]() or [hosting a podcast]() isn’t for everyone. So before you go all in, read these 5 warning signs that starting an online business isn’t for you. (This’ll potentially save you time and agony.) Warning sign #1: You’d rather not work hard. If you think building a business is easy—and you can bring in the bacon without putting in the work of idea generation, validation, customer research, marketing, pricing, packaging, and positioning—this isn’t for you. Warning sign #2: You expect to bank millions in weeks. Starting from scratch and expecting to make $1,250,000 in 8 weeks is just crazy thinking… Ramit Sethi There’s no online course called “How to Become a Millionaire in 24 Hours.” And for good reason. It’s taken me 15+ years to get to this point. That’s…a long time. And that’s why I developed my systems. I don’t want to see you go through the same mistakes! (More on that next week.) Thousands of my students have used my proven systems to launch profitable online businesses. But still—they had two feet on the ground. They didn’t set expectations that they’d just wake up with millions in their bank account. You shouldn’t, either. Warning sign #3: You’re not coachable Okay, you shouldn’t take advice from just anybody. But if your business is struggling to get any traction, or hits a snag along the way…be open to coaching. Seek advice from business owners who have been in the trenches, can save you time, and can help steer you away from catastrophic decisions. Because NO ONE in business, including me and my students, has succeeded by “going it alone.” (They’re lying if they tell you that.) Warning sign #4: You’re waiting for inspiration. Think about this quote from William Faulkner: “I write when I’m inspired, and I see to it that I’m inspired at nine o’clock every day.” Maybe you get up at noon as part of your Rich Life. Doesn’t matter. Just don’t wait for a muse to show up and inspire you with brilliant business ideas. Start SMALL. Focus on getting a simple win: your first sale. If you’re the kind of person who is going to sit and wait to act until inspiration strikes, don’t start a business. You’ll just waste time. Warning sign #5: You think you need _______ (insert unnecessary thing). Newsflash! You do NOT need these 5 things to start a business: - A fancy website and logo design - A personal branding expert - VC funding or (ugh) tapping into your 401K - Spending 3 hours a day posting on social - “Grinding” 24/7 and killing yourself in the process [Brandon testimonial]() How to know you’re ready If any of these five reasons sound like you, that’s okay. You don’t need to start a business—especially if someone told you that you should. Find a job you’re stoked about instead! (I have an amazing course, [Find Your Dream Job](), for just that.) On the flip side… You’re ready to start your own business if: - The idea of working for yourself excites you—because you want more flexibility and control over your schedule, income, and future. - You can weather the emotional ups and downs that’ll come with entrepreneurship. - You dread your job—or feel stuck—and you’re ready for a change. - You don’t need your new business to instantly pay ALL your bills. That’s too much pressure. (No one works well under that kind of pressure.) - You’re interested in making your first sale. More so than spending months playing with brand colors and fonts and…not actually selling anything. So if you’re ready? Start small. And before you pour months of time and thousands of dollars into a venture…find your first customer. Your business can be the foundation of your Rich Life. Don’t rush it. [Signature] P.S.
