I’m not talking about a life where you quit your job, move to a cabin in the woods, and become the next Hemingway or Jane Austen. I’m talking about how being a great writer would make it easier to: Work with your boss and convey complex ideas. Even ask for a raise. (And get it!) Talk to people, like strangers at networking events where you can engage in interesting conversations and be memorable. Date online and make connections. Why you need to be a great writer Writing may not be exciting or seem like a big deal — especially if you hate it or flunked out in grade school. But listen: Everyone needs to learn how to become a great writer. You can persuade anyone to do just about anything with writing, which makes your life 10X better and easier. Seriously, I wrote [a New York Times bestseller]() and went from being just a college kid who wore Elmo slippers to building a successful 8-figure business — all because I became great at writing. So if you want to improve your writing, start here: Imagine the person you're writing to is sitting across the table. What would you say? Don’t say “I don’t know” or “This is too hard.” Try it. Speak to this imaginary person out loud, record it, and then write it down. It won’t be perfect right away, but it’s a start. Learning how to write exactly how you speak is key. It feels natural, right? Not salesy. And it’s authentic, which is what this is all about. Being your AUTHENTIC self. Not “authentic like Ramit” — but authentic like you.
