I’ve been thinking about one of my favorite questions ever. To view this email as a web page, [click here]() {NAME}, I’ve been thinking about one of my favorite questions ever. No, it’s not “What’s your favorite brand of hot sauce?” ([it’s this one]()). Or “How do I perfectly iron all of my clothes?” ([YEARS of practice]()). It’s this: What’s your Rich Life? This might be my favorite question ever. I love hearing all the different answers. For me, a Rich Life means no commute, no office, no fluorescent lights, no trips to Home Depot, and plenty of travel. Some highlights from my Rich Life… [Ramit] Attending the red carpet event for my Netflix show in April [Cass and Ramit with friends] Meeting up with friends on a recent trip to Japan [Ramit] Shopping for clothes that fit perfectly and give me plenty of outfit options Everyone's Rich Life is unique, but one of the most common responses I hear is "I want to do what I want, when I want." Which makes sense. Success is rarely a dollar figure. Most people want a specific lifestyle. So, what is your Rich Life? Is it: - Never having to wake up to a blaring alarm clock? - Being able to travel for 3 weeks at a time — and flying business class? - Being able to shop at Whole Foods without looking at the price? - Picking up your daughter from school every afternoon? - Ordering guacamole with your burrito at Chipotle without thinking twice? - Being able to go to yoga class in the middle of the day? - Never having to hear that annoying Slack notification ever again? - Getting front row tickets to your favorite band’s concert? - Ordering an Uber to get around instead of using the bus? Sometimes it's something small (like saying "yes" to an appetizer). Sometimes it's huge (like saying "yes" to an extra dream vacation). I've talked to thousands of readers about this to really dig and understand what "Rich Life" means. In doing so, I discovered there isn't one goal — one type of freedom — there's actually 5 levels of freedom. Each gets progressively more liberating and empowering as you go. I call this the Ladder of Freedom. I'll walk you through each level. [Freedom from $3 worries] Don't ignore this one just because it's the "lowest" rung on the ladder. Freedom from $3 worries makes every day much less stressful and much more enjoyable. It still brings me joy to order appetizers if something catches my eye. [Freedom to ask $30,000 questions] AKA, freedom to tackle the [Big Wins](). Most people obsess over tiny, not-important-in-the-grand-scheme decisions and completely ignore the Big Wins. Other Big Wins in addition to the ones listed above: - Automating your money ([more on this here]()) - Starting a second income stream ([more on this here]()) [Freedom from location] This is one of my favorites. While I usually work from home, I love being able to work anywhere. Here's me checking in from India and Japan during extended trips: [Ramit] Back to the ladder... [Freedom from time limits] Other ways you can use money to buy back your time: - Have someone do your laundry - Hire a bookkeeper or accountant - Pay someone to mow your lawn - Get a trainer - Get groceries delivered - Hire a personal chef - Pay for an Uber or Lyft - Order delivery - Hire a nanny - Fast pass at Disneyland [Freedom from expectations] Maybe you want to buy a house — or not. Maybe you want to work five days a week — or not. Maybe you want to travel around the country in a camper! (I certainly don't, but some of my readers — and even [teammates]() — do, and I love that!) Freedom from expectations means you’ve mastered the $3 level, the $30,000 level, the freedom from location, AND the freedom from time limits. This level is the culmination of the others — the top of the Ladder of Freedom — because you’ve truly earned the right to be free from expectations. The best part? You can choose the life you want. But now I want to know: What level excites you the most? What's your plan? Reply to this email and let me know. (Be specific. Vague plans don't work!) A common mistake is assuming you have to accomplish every rung on the Ladder of Freedom at the same time. Wrong! Some take months. Even years. Others take financial means or psychological breakthroughs (e.g., buying back your time). If you want to achieve one or more — or all! — levels of freedom, you'll need a plan. You can't stumble into freedom from time limit, location, or expectations. I didn't achieve the freedom I enjoy now overnight. I had to build my business first, which I intentionally built to be location-independent and run on autopilot (so I could take long breaks and it would keep humming along). This is the engine that powers my Rich Life. If you want to learn how I built it — and how you can follow the same steps to build your own — I'll show you. Come to my free, live workshop on Monday, 5/22: "[How to create a second income stream]()." [How to create a second income stream]() In the workshop, you'll see how to go from "no idea" to your first sale in less than a week.
