Today, I’m going to share with you another one of my Success Triggers To view this email as a web page, [click here]() {NAME}, Today, I’m going to share with you another one of my [Success Triggers]() to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the course. (For those of you counting, that’s three this week — 1/10 of the 30 Success Triggers available inside the program.) Remember Blockbuster, the video rental giant that thrived on huge late fees? Netflix ultimately beat them, and personally, I’m not that upset. (On a side note… if you haven't caught it yet, [click here to check out my show on Netflix]().) Think back to how we used to stand at Blockbuster, pacing around between aisles, bewildered and paralyzed by all the movie choices. How many of us would walk around for 15 minutes trying to find ONE movie? [Blockbuster aisles] We were paralyzed by choice. And yet, every day, you wake up, brush your teeth, commute to work, handle a meeting with 4 co-workers with competing interests, deal with your boss’s emotional outburst, take a coffee break (and walk across the street without getting hit by 2,000lb moving metal machines)... Anyone else wonder HOW WE MAKE IT THROUGH THE DAY? HOW COME WE CAN’T CHOOSE A MOVIE, BUT WE CAN WALK/RUN/LIVE IN THIS COMPLEX WORLD?? Here’s what’s going on Our brain knows that the world is too complicated to try to understand every little detail, so it creates “mental shortcuts” to process the massive amount of information we encounter every day. EXAMPLE: You’re walking down a dark alley at night. You hear footsteps behind you. You don’t even need to turn around in order for your heart to start beating, activating your fight-or-flight response. These mental shortcuts are important. They help us make sense of millions of details every day. Our brains are miraculous machines that let us instantly use “pattern-matching” to cut through the chaos of everyday life. They do this AUTOMATICALLY. But sometimes — especially in a world of constructed consumer desire, 50 kinds of detergent, and a limitless number of options on Tinder — we get overwhelmed. If you’ve ever found yourself paralyzed by choice, let me show you how to take your brain’s natural “mental frameworks” and use them to automatically make a decision: free of any guilt, worry, or hassle. Example: What should the President wear today? In 2012, Vanity Fair wrote a [profile of President Obama](). Presidents tend to make more huge decisions every day than any of us. Notice this part where Obama eliminates decisions from his life: “You also need to remove from your life the day-to-day problems that absorb most people for meaningful parts of their day. ‘You’ll see I wear only gray or blue suits,’ [Obama] said. ‘I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.’ He mentioned research that shows the simple act of making decisions degrades one’s ability to make further decisions.” It’s not just clothes. Let me show you how to apply this principle of reducing choice to your life. Introducing Ramit’s Book-Buying Rule You would not believe how many times I see comments in my community, or my blog, or my email saying, “Hey, Ramit, what do you think about this book? Is it good? I read the reviews, but I’m just not sure. What do you think?” ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This is why I invented Ramit’s Book-Buying Rule. It simply goes like this: If you ever have a question of whether you should buy a book or not, BUY IT! Just default to buying it. Think about what goes into writing a book: You take an author who’s spent years and years writing in one area that you’re interested in. You get access to all that wisdom for about TEN BUCKS! There is literally no higher ROI. Even if 209 pages are boring, if you discover ONE insight on page 210, you can apply it for the rest of your life. It’s hilarious to see discussion threads that are fifty comments long about a book. They could have saved that time, bought the book, discovered the insight, applied it to their life, and then got on with the rest of it. Instead, here they are, trolling other people wondering, “Should I spend $9.98 buying this book?” What is wrong with them? [Ramit Tweet] The Ramit Book-Buying rule says, “If you ever wonder, the answer is yes.” This is an example of a mental framework, or what I call a “Success Trigger.” Once I learned this one (among others), it changed everything for me. Instead of being paralyzed by choices about what to buy, or where to go, I had a Success Trigger I could simply fall back on — and it would guide me every time. The amount of insights I’ve discovered from JUST this one Success Trigger has been worth over $1 million. One book I bought — directly as a result of Ramit’s Book-Buying Rule — made me 6 figures in one month. And here’s how [one of my readers benefited]() from spending $15 on my book: [Ramit Tweet]   [IWT book testimonial] The beautiful thing about this is, when you have this Success Trigger, it’s truly a mental shortcut you can keep in your back pocket and apply EVERYWHERE. And it’s not just about making more money or reading more books. It lets you REDUCE CHOICE and BUILD MOMENTUM so you can keep moving forward. And this is just ONE Success Trigger! I have 29 others I want to share with you. [Success Triggers]() is 10 years old this week. Over the last decade, I’ve received countless messages just like this one.
