Yesterday, I told you about how I helped people build their Rich Life with my To view this email as a web page, [click here]() {NAME}, Yesterday, I told you about how I helped people build their Rich Life with my new Netflix show. (If you haven’t seen it yet, [you can watch it here]().) One thing that I’ve taught my students for years is the importance of earning more money—whether it be through freelancing, investing, or building a business. Today, I want to talk about a critical area of earning more: your career. For some, a job is just something you do from 9 to 5 that pays for rent, groceries, bills, etc. And you know what? That’s totally fine. If you’re happy with the money you’re making and it helps you build your Rich Life, that’s great. But for others, a job is a vocation. It’s a calling that you’d do even if you were earning significantly less than you would at other jobs you’re qualified for. A lot of Top Performers understand what I’m talking about. Some people sleep, eat, and breathe their jobs. Hell, I was one of these people at one time—and I still am in many ways. But...why is it like this? Why do so many of us have to choose one or the other? It goes back to 2 truths about our careers that many of us aren’t willing to talk about: UNSPOKEN TRUTH #1: You don’t have to choose one or another. In fact, you can have a career that pays well AND helps you build the skills you want. Nobody will tell you this. “Life coaches” tell you you're lucky you even have a job (funny, ever notice they’ve never gotten a top-tier job? Maybe they don’t understand how the game really works...). Other people will wring their hands and say, “I just want ANYONE to hire me.” Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Top Performers are landing great jobs, more responsibility, and flexible schedules. (Yes, even in tHiS eCoNoMy.) What they do is completely different from what most people talk about. [Jennifer] A student of mine, Jennifer, has a job where she can take a large part of the summer off to hang with her family The OLD 9 to 5 is only about security. You study hard, take the job you get, and give thanks that you found a job to provide for your family. Your parents (and mine) grew up in that system. That’s why they don’t understand when people say, “This job isn’t rewarding.” They were more than happy to put in the hours, put money towards a pension, and retire with a cushy nest egg. The NEW 9 to 5 is about careers that are: - CHALLENGING: I want to do something that pushes me, not just say what I think what the CEO wants me to say for the next 40 years. - FLEXIBLE: I want the flexibility to work from home without the guilt. Or to get my work done early—and then take off early. If I’m getting my job done, why not? - REWARDING: I expect to work hard, but if I do an extraordinary job, I expect to be compensated. This means more vacation days, better benefits, and—yes—more money. We don’t have to settle for a mind-numbing job where we countdown the hours until we get to leave … then come back tomorrow and do it again. UNSPOKEN TRUTH #2: These companies are desperate to find the right people, RIGHT NOW, and they’ll pay with money, perks, and unbelievable freedom. Despite all the pearl clutching about the economy and the near-constant Chicken Little cries of a recession on the horizon, companies are still undergoing a [hiring boom](). That means they’re competing with each other to bring on the best talent. So, what does this mean? You can put yourself at an unfair advantage in the job market—if you use the right systems. The core skills of job searching—having a great resume, a fantastic cover letter, masterful interview skills—are more important than ever. When you nail those skills, you can find a job that’ll pay well, give you a lot of flexibility, and provide the resources to become the person you want to be. For example, 100% of my team is remote. They can work from anywhere. They can go to yoga in the middle of the day, or pick their kids up from school. One of them traveled around the world for a year with my full support. This is TOTALLY different than what people think of when it comes to jobs: - “Ho hum, I hate my job, the only way to be successful is to start a business” (not true) - “I don’t have the right degree/experience to get a really good job” (ignorant) - “There’s no way I can find a good job in THIS economy” (wrong) I’m telling you this because I’ve been on both sides of the hiring table: as an applicant and as someone who’s hired dozens and dozens of people. I’m also telling you this because 97% of us have a job, and it’s one of the most powerful areas to focus on to live a Rich Life. Just think about it—you spend 8 hours a day at your job. Shouldn’t it be helping you grow instead of something you sigh about? I’m going to show you how to use your career to grow. That means more freedom. More fun. More responsibility and challenges. And yes, more money. Doesn’t matter if you’ve been a job hopper, or you don’t have the “right” experience, or you don’t even know what your Dream Job is! I can help.
