Sometimes it feels like we’re all just pawns in the hands of advertisers To view this email as a web page, [click here]() {NAME}, Sometimes it feels like we’re all just pawns in the hands of advertisers, doesn’t it? We like to think that ads don’t really work on us, but the truth is, they do. It’s just part of being human. But it’s not all bad. Sometimes, ads can be magical. They can make us laugh, cry, and most importantly, buy. Have you ever seen an ad that just made you go “wow”? I sure have. It takes insight into psychology, communication, and human behavior to create ads like this one: [Linked to video]() [Click here to watch - it’s a tear jerker]() Who would have thought an ad about cleaning products could tell such a moving story and make you feel inspired? That's why I love studying advertising. When it's great, you can’t help but keep watching and hit the buy button. And then there are ads that rely on music to create an emotional response. [Like this little gem from 2017](). This isn't the oldest or most well-known ad on my list, but it's become incredibly powerful over its five-year existence. So powerful and so true you forget it's an ad at all. That’s because it elicits a variety of emotions that unites everyone — so take a minute to check it out. And then there’s the power of the written word. I’ve written single emails that have generated millions of dollars in sales. Crazy, right? [Sample of sales page]() This simple page has generated millions of dollars. Notice the striking difference among all three. One tells a story visually, one uses music, and one uses words. Yet ALL of them have a deep understanding of human psychology. Now, here's the interesting thing — we like to think we're in control of our own behavior (as evidenced by those people who say, "LOL! Ads don't work on me," while typing away on their MacBook Pro). But the truth is, we're deeply influenced by what we see and hear — including ads. It doesn't make us weak. It makes us human. So, let's explore this together. Over the next few days, I'll share some of my insights about psychology, communication and human behavior — some of which have generated millions of dollars. Plus my take on new technology that is threatening to disrupt the online world. And if you’ve ever had to persuade someone to do something — to hire you, to give you a raise, to buy your product, to lower your rent, even to come to your birthday party — I think you’ll find this especially interesting. (Hint: That means EVERYONE.) Next I want to hear from you too — what are your favorite ads? Commercials, Facebook or Instagram ads, emails, print ads, whatever has made you laugh, cry, or buy. Let's talk about WHY it made you do those things. I’m sure we can all learn a thing or two. Hit reply to this email and send me the ads that made you laugh, cry, or an advertisement’s ultimate goal — buy.
