(What does your Rich Life look like?) Today, I want to share a case study â mine â of what's possible when you have a business that allows you to do what you want, when you want. My goal is to spark your imagination. If you had a business that paid you to live the life of your dreamsâ¦what would you do? Where would you go? Who would you bring with you? And most importantly, what would you do to build your dream life? Without further ado, my top 5 Rich Life memories (in chronological order)... #1: Moving to NYC After living in San Francisco for years, I got the itch to move to NYC. I wanted to meet new people, swim in a bigger pond, and keep growing. Technically, I should have stayed in SF because I had an awesome deal and was saving tons of money every month. Like a prudent financial expert, I ran the numbersâ¦but then I totally ignored them and went with my gut. Several weeks later, I was living in my new NYC apartment. [Ramit] When I moved to NYC, I only knew a few people. But during my time there, I met my wife, grew my business, met new friends, changed my entire view on fitness, and so many other things. The early success of my business gave me the confidence â and the cash flow â to make that leap. #2: My dream wedding Look at this email⦠[Sales] That's $51,580. On a Saturday. I didn't see this email for a couple days because when it came in, I was off in Lake Tahoe, getting married. In fact, that week I launched a brand new course that students loved, made over $550,000, and I was out of office the whole time with my wife and our family and friends having the best week of our lives. [Cass and Ramit] That's not a vacation brag. The truth is, I'm not interested in work/life balance. I think that entire idea is flawed and symptomatic of a scarcity mindset. Instead, I want a business that supports the life I want to live â professionally and personally. I want the flexibility to spend more time with family and friends, whether itâs 250 people at my wedding or a select few at a weekend BBQ. #3: Our 6-week honeymoon When we were planning our wedding, my fiancee (now wife) Cass and I were out to dinner with some friends. We were talking about wedding planning and our friends asked us what we were thinking for a honeymoon. I told them we were probably going to go on a safari for 7 or 8 days. One of our friends said, âThat sounds amazing. You know, when we went on our honeymoon, we took three months off and it was amazing.â Cass and I looked at each other. What? Then the next couple told us that they took a year off and traveled the world when they got married. Cass and I walked out of that dinner looking at each other, saying âWhat the hell just happeââ We thought they were normal people. But who the hell takes that much time off? Long story short, Cass and I ended up taking a 6-week honeymoon. Thanks to our businesses, we could afford it. And we had the flexibility to be away from work for weeks at a time. [Ramit and Cass] We started in Italy and invited our parents. We took them on food tours, cooking classes, and wine tastings, and basically treated them like royalty. Then we flew to Kenya for a safari, then finished our trip in India. It was magical. In fact, it was so magical that⦠#4: Once-in-a-lifetime tripsâ¦every year Our honeymoon was so life-changing that at the end of it we looked at each other and said, âWe need to do this every year.â So we did. [Cass and Ramit] The next year, we spent 6 weeks touring India and Japan â staying at luxury resorts (like this floating hotel), eating amazing food, meeting with local craftspeople, and enjoying large chunks of time set aside to just relax, read, and think. What if you could go on once-in-a-lifetime trips every year? Where would you go? #5: My 40th birthday bash Once you KNOW what your Rich Life looks likeâ¦and you build the MEANS to fund itâ¦that's when things get really exciting. You can do this at any level. But as your business grows, your options grow. I knew my Rich Life included bringing friends and family together, giving them the gift of leisure. So for my 40th birthday, I planned a long, slow trip together with lots of friends and lots of free time in a beautiful place where everyone felt comfortable. I chose Mexico, and it was a blast. [At my 40th birthday bash] Since I LOVE to learn, we took two classes while we were there: a ceviche class and a cocktail-making class. There's something magical about people building something together, and something beautifully primal about sharing food together. * * * What does your Rich Life look like? How about you?
