A Rich Life isn’t all about money. Flip that. I see money as a tool for To view this email as a web page, [click here]() The Bucket List Brainstorm A Rich Life isn’t all about money. Flip that. I see money as a tool for designing, enhancing, and enjoying the life you’re meant to live. So, what does YOUR Rich Life look like? Most people don’t really know. They give me vague answers like “I do what I want, when I want.” Or “Travel.” Or “Buying $5 lattes.” You can do better. Today, I want to share a preview of The Rich Life System, my new financial program, coming next week. The Bucket List Brainstorm is an exercise from the program that’s designed to help you get crystal clear on what your Rich Life is. Exercise: The Bucket List BrainstormThe first step in building your Rich Life is to start envisioning it. What would it look like? Because your Rich Life is yours, no one can tell you what it should look like. That's for you to decide. But what if you don’t even know what you want? Or you have a general feel … but aren't sure on the specifics? That’s why I like to start with a high-level brainstorming session, or what I like to call The Bucket List Brainstorm. This exercise will help you start getting specific about what really excites you and what matters the most to you. Get these items on paper first. Then you can build your Rich Life around your biggest, most compelling life goals. To do your own Bucket List Brainstorm, grab a pen and paper and follow these steps: - What’s on your Rich Life bucket list? Quickly list the first 15 things that come to mind. They could be travel destinations, things you want to buy, activities you want to do, events you want to go to, people you want to meet, etc. [Bucket List Brainstorm] - When you're done, circle your top 5. What do you notice? Are there any trends or similarities? - For each of your top 5 items, think about when you'd like to do them. What timeline makes the most sense for you? - By age 40, I’d like to ________________. - Between ages 40 and 50, I’d like to ________________. - Between ages 50 and 60, I’d like to ________________. How to fund your Bucket List Goals OK, now that you have an idea of your Rich Life, how will you fund it? Here’s how I do it. Every year, my wife and I take a 6-week vacation. But we don’t budget for it. No, instead, it’s all about automation. At the beginning of the year, we sit down and decide where we want to go this year, how long we want to go, who we want to take with us (if anyone), etc. Then we start to look at how much it’s going to cost. That’s when automation kicks in. We set up our accounts to automatically redirect money into a sub-savings account each month. We spend maybe a minute or two per month for the rest of the year just checking in to make sure everything is on track — otherwise, we don’t even think about it at all. When it’s time for the trip at the end of the year, we enjoy it guilt-free. We know the money has been set aside. This is how we use money as a tool for designing, enhancing, and enjoying our Rich Life. Coming Monday: “How to stop worrying about money” In my upcoming event, “How to stop worrying about money,” I’ll give you an inside look at my personal money system.
