So many spend life playing defense that they lose the skills to play offense. To view this email as a web page, [click here]() “What if my business idea doesn’t work?” vs. “What if it DOES work?” So many people spend life playing defense that they’ve lost the skills to play offense. - “How can I save $5?” vs. “How can I negotiate a raise?” - “What if this book is a waste?” vs. “What if it changes my life?” - “What if my business idea doesn’t work?” vs. “What if it DOES work?” What it means: Too many of us play defense with our finances: - We wait until the end of the month, then look at our spending and shrug: “I guess I spent that much.” - We accept onerous fees. - We don’t question complicated advice because it’s given to us in a language we don’t understand. Don’t do this. Go on offense with your credit cards, your banks, your investments, and even your own money psychology. What it looks like: First, I covered the basics with my money: - Automatic saving - Automatic investing - Basic guidelines, e.g., save + invest 20% of gross income (I cover this in chapters 4 and 5 of [my book]().) Second, I went on offense for my own Rich Life vision. This included setting money aside for specific goals. For example, one of our dreams is to have a beautiful 10-year wedding anniversary celebration in India. We know the exact place and we know exactly who we want to bring. We consciously save for that — every month. Start a business to play offense with your money One of the best ways to play offense with your money is starting your own business. When I tell people this, I often get this response: "How can I start a business if I don't have an idea?" It's a good question with a simple but counterintuitive answer. You're not looking for the perfect idea. You're looking for MANY ideas. Get those, then figure out which of them will be profitable. This is one of the many things we teach in [Earnable](), our program on how to go from "no idea" to a profitable, automated, online business. It's a powerful reframe for how to approach finding a business idea (and solving most problems in general). Don't get stuck looking for one magic solution Most people are stuck in a "one magic solution" mentality. It reminds me of high school students who are looking for "one" scholarship. You don't look for one … you look for ALL of them! I applied to 65 scholarships to pay my way through undergrad and grad school. Same thing for finding a business idea. If I gave you the perfect idea today, would you know what to do with it? Here, take this: "Teaching people personal finance." Or "Teaching people how to dress better." Or even "Drawing pictures of people." Each of those is a 6-figure IDEA. Does that really help you? NO! Beginners over-focus on finding a single magical idea. As you learn the process we teach in Earnable, you relax and find many ideas (that you already have) and follow a process to rapidly test them to find the right one. It's much more freeing … and much more FUN! So stop worrying about not having a business idea. Earnable will show you how to find your idea — and then start making sales. [Learn more about how Earnable works here](). How businesses make money When you’re thinking about going on offense by earning more, you’ll want to know how businesses actually make money. How they take an ASSET and leverage it to make money, again and again. We cover that and more in [Earnable](). This program shows you how to build a flexible lifestyle and help stabilize your income by starting your own work-from-anywhere business. Today, I want to share two juicy excerpts from Earnable: #1: How business works: Behind the scenes of a $2,388 customer I take you behind the scenes of our business. Watch how someone finds us on Google, how they join our email list, and how they eventually buy for $2,388. Watching this, you’ll see how you can engineer the same thing for yourself and build an asset, one that lets you share your passion with the world as you sleep. Once you see the inner workings of our business — which we’ve spent years developing and millions of dollars testing — you can use the material to build it into your own business. No need to reinvent the wheel. [Earnable]() [Earnable preview: Watch how someone finds us and becomes a $2,388 customer]() #2: Listen to Ramit make a $1,000 sales call When was the last time you had the chance to listen in on a real sales call? Never. If you’ve ever been nervous about selling, the usual advice — “Be confident!” — doesn’t help much. In Earnable, we decided to give you a level of specificity you cannot find anywhere else. Like listening to actual sales calls. In this Earnable sneak peek, listen in while I speak to a real person. I ask about their needs, we talk, and eventually they buy. Throughout the video, I’ll pause the call to highlight exactly what I’m doing on the call and why. [Earnable]() [Watch this Earnable excerpt here]() These videos are just two of many in Earnable that demystify the process of starting and growing a business. As you can see, this material is totally different from anything you’ll find in other programs. [Click here]() to see everything that’s included in Earnable. You won’t build an online business overnight When you’re first starting out with your business, it’s so easy to think about all the what if's that you get overwhelmed. But IWT wasn't built overnight. When I started, I wasn't an expert. I knew nothing about online business. I didn't even realize I should build an email list for years. Humble origins: [Humble origins] I made every mistake — except one: not getting started. I jumped in, I tried things, and I learned from my mistakes. The successful Earnable students do exactly the same thing. They start, they make mistakes, but they still grow their online businesses. If you’re curious, [check out some of their stories here](). There are things in life where you’re never really “ready.” You’ll never be truly ready to have a child. You’ll never be ready to get married. But you still do it. You don’t have to be ready. You don't have to be perfect. You don't even have to be sure. But you do have to take the leap of faith in yourself. [Join Earnable now](). Valentine’s Day traditions or memories? Valentine’s Day is Monday. One of the most common [Money Dials]() is Relationships. If that’s yours, what’s your favorite memory of turning that dial all the way up? Reply and let me know — I’ll include a few of my favorite replies in tomorrow’s email.
