I recently had one of the most interesting money conversations I've ever had.
To view this email as a web page, [click here]() [IWT Header] One of the most interesting money conversations Iâve ever had I received this message recently: [Message I received] This led to one of the most interesting money conversations I've ever had. Listen to me talk to Charles and Michelle on the I Will Teach You To Be Rich podcast â [here's part 1]() and [part 2 is here](). I learned that their actual numbers are much larger: net worth of $13 million, $3 million yearly income. Yet Charles is so cheap that Michelle is threatening to leave him. Most people roll their eyes. They've never met someone with this kind of money, and they find it inconceivable that someone could still be cheap. And yet ⦠many people reading this will end up in the same situation: Huge amounts of money and still spending out of a scarcity mindset. I wanted you to be able to HEAR their two voices. His, shining with pride about how he still loves to shop at the dollar store. Hers, resentful of 21 years of marriage while still having to be micromanaged about minor purchases. Have you ever heard a conversation like this? Hereâs the scary thing: Many people who follow scarcity-based frugality advice will end up in this same situation. They may not have $10 million, but they will have more money than they know what to do with â and no skills to actually spend it. They will have prioritized a spreadsheet over a Rich Life. The FIRE community should take heed of this conversation, because it shows that a high savings rate is not the purpose of a Rich Life â even if you accumulate millions. There are costs to tunnel vision around your money. In money, we overvalue math and undervalue psychology. This is precisely what I wanted to show you with this conversation. To take you behind closed doors and show you what happens when you've won at the game of money â but never considered that a Rich Life is more than money. - Did you know you can save too much money? - Do you want to end up 70 years old, with millions of dollars in the bank, yet no skills to know how to spend it? - Are you co-creating your financial journey with your loved ones? Are they truly your partner? These are hard questions. Money is more than a figure in your savings account. Money is more than your car, your annual vacation, your asset allocation, your SWR, or your retirement age. Money is more than a number. Money is a small but important part of a Rich Life â and a Rich Life is the real goal. This conversation with Michelle and Charles is haunting, surprising, fascinating, and provocative. Here are some of the responses Iâve gotten from these two episodes. ["This convo was so good"] ["I'm learning a lot on many fronts"] ["I really felt connected to the last episode with Charles"] Listen to [part 1]() and [part 2](), and then send me your response. --------------------------------------------------------------- The 3 parts to a remarkable piece of writing that gets people to read ⦠and take action This week, weâre talking about the power of writing. No matter who you are or what you do for a living, you need to know how to write. And today, Iâm going to show you a hidden structure that lies beneath effective writing. (Bonus points if you can see this structure in this email!) A while back, I got a question about writing: âWhatâs the best way to organize a blog post?â Iâve thought a lot about this. I write a lot of blog posts. So does my team. We wanted to find a way to not only write efficiently, but to make the posts impactful and fun to read. Iâll break down how we think about it. Be sure to read to the end EVEN IF YOU DONâT BLOG. This lesson is critical for everyone who writes ... in other words, everyone. Have your high-level research ready to goWhen I sit down to write, I want to have all the material I need. So I want to have an idea. I want to have any links to any competitor content that Iâve researched. For example, if Iâm writing about dating, I want to sit down and have three links that Iâve collected a while ago about funny dating stories ready to go. And I put those within handâs reach. Almost like a chef about to create a meal has all the ingredients right there. Organize everything into 3 partsNext I break a post into three simple parts. HookThe first is the hook. This is whatâs going to get people interested and into reading. Typically this is a story or example. I donât like to start off by saying, âIn this world of important productivity needsâ¦â Nobody cares. Instead, I would say, âI woke up late again and I knew that if I went to work and I got there late, I was going to be in huge trouble with my boss.â Thatâs a pretty good hook. Tell them a story. Tell them something that happened to you. Get them into it. Youâve got to hook them. BodyThen comes the meat of the post: the body. What are you going to say? This might be, âI looked back on my last two months and Iâve been late to work 40% of the time. So I tried a bunch of different stuff. These are the three things that worked for me.â CTAFinally, we have the call to action, or CTA for short. What do you want them to do? Comment? Share? Click through to a different page? Make this clear at the end. So continuing with the same example, Iâd write, âSign up to learn more about productivity, click below.â How this applies to EVERYONEThis 3-part structure applies to all kinds of writing. - Cover letters: (1) Hereâs a specific example of why Iâm a perfect fit for this job; (2) here are my other qualifications; (3) letâs set up an interview.
- Informational interview requests: (1) We have a mutual connection; (2) here is why I'm contacting you; (3) which of these three times works best for you?
- Books: (1) How this obscure fact explains everything; (2) a detailed breakdown of the reasons for this, and examples; (3) think about this the next time you are going to do X.
- Informational articles: (1) A devastating personal story; (2) hereâs exactly why this happened, including shocking details; (3) call your senator.
- A company memo: (1) Remember Susan and what she did?; (2) hereâs the details of our new policy to deal with this; (3) click here to download the form, sign it, and return it to your supervisor. You get the idea. So the next time you sit down to write something â an email, a blog post, a letter to a friend, a social media post â think about these 3 steps. If you use them, you have a much better chance that the person will read what you write ⦠and most importantly, take the action you want them to take. --------------------------------------------------------------- Hereâs why youâre reading this So many other people have self-development blogs and newsletters. But youâre reading this one right now. Hereâs why: Copy. Copywriting is one of the most powerful strategies in your arsenal. You know because youâre reading this email right now â and youâve been reading for a while. No, your copy doesnât have to be sensationalistic or salesy. No, your copy doesnât have to sound like everyone elseâs (even if youâre in a highly competitive market). And no! You donât have to be me or a professional copywriter to learn the skill of copywriting. Take a look at these very different students who used copywriting to grow their businesses. [Kavita] - Industry: Relationship and dating
- Copy change: Rewrote her email to tell an authentic, personal story that connected with readers where they were
- Result: $7,000
- She says: âRamit helped me reframe how I speak to my ideal client. Heâd push me to sit in their shoes, to think and experience what theyâre feeling right now. I have people on my list writing me and saying 'Youâre literally in my head. You nailed it. This is exactly how I was feeling right now.' I wasnât getting those comments before.â [Graham] - Industry: Music and recording
- Copy change: Created a 5-day email funnel for a new product
- Result: $46,269 in 5 days
- He says: âI knew the course was really good and would transform the way my students approach recording music in their home studios âBUT I knew that no one would buy if the copy wasn't compelling. I busted my butt to write not only a killer sales page, but a killer 5-day launch of emails (6 emails total). I still feel like I'm not that great at writing copy that converts, but I'm seeing progress...â Iâll always be candid with you. Are you going to write a new email that magically produces $50,000 overnight? Probably not. But you will learn exactly how to write incredibly compelling copy that grows your business. In fact, youâll learn how to use copy as a tool to double your business in 18 months. We know â weâve done it multiple times. Martin Bentsen runs a successful headshot business and also helps actors get auditions and roles. He wrote in to us earlier this year about some recent success he had: [Martin] "I went from having 1 subscriber a day to now getting about 10-15 (and Iâm probably going to be able to get it up to 20 per day in another 2-4 weeks). This finally happened after reworking my offer based on one SUPER simple, tactical 'crunchy' solution Iâm offering now on my website... It took a ton of patience and testing, etc., but finally I broke through that subscriber wall. Iâm getting around 10-15% of ideal clients on my website to subscribe now." A couple months later, Martin sent us another note: "I set up research calls with about 10 actors specifically to find out what they care about when it comes to headshots. I took tons of notes and realized my positioning was all wrong on my website â I was talking about getting the right expression in your photo, but all they wanted was more auditions. So I redesigned our website to focus on how our headshots get actors more auditions, and within 2 weeks of changing that, the number of bookings weâve got for actor headshots has gone from about 1-2 per week to 1-2 per DAY. And they are now booking bigger packages too!! That simple change has improved my revenue from actor headshots from around $2,500/month to likely over $15,000/month or more. This is HUGE!" Congratulations Martin! [Signature] WHAT TO DO NEXT - LISTEN: Listen to my conversation with Charles and Michelle ([part 1]() and [part 2]()) and then send me your response.
