Part of living your Rich Life is spending money on the things you love. [Rich Life Insiders Banner](113/d586LZ04/VWwjc35z7r4cW5KYkjl3QW8qBW4zFhY95cH_l2N412xbl3qn9gW7Y8-PT6lZ3ktW4dPk_x2jfVSJW2m5n2C6CJTDMW5fNSj09hXNfzW7Mq7hh3wRGhhW2tltpz3VB19fW8j66yk3Lm0Q5Vgm-Tc5FjVGjVMt1q-1G1fchW2s4F2B2Z07DDW1qwsQ49lxB4SN1Fg8MDvK_SFW6nYf3Q8FF-yXN6HXltC9hQy3W4Xl78m3ZDNH_W9dG0D15HrxR2V57BV06wrkCDW8cbsgc6c9lRLW29r6gK2LLs5jW7ckxtK816j6WW7Mmr-r7J1r1GW4VZnht9d0WRpW4H07JT4Pj1ZgW1VJD9r2Byj-HW2-Jzfl4RCh94W2sdrmG3wgcQ2W5vpPTD6_3WDpf7lpcVl04) {NAME}, Part of living your Rich Life is spending money on the things you love. The other day, I challenged you to spend without a single ounce of guilt on something that brings you joy. (And of course, I asked you to report back on what you bought…because I want to know!) Here’s how you decided to spend your money: [Collage of how people want to spend their money] I love it!! Look at how different all of these things are. One person’s Rich Life is comfort and convenience (taking Uber instead of public transit, getting electrolysis instead of shaving). Another person wants more quality time with their family (an unforgettable meal at a private restaurant). Some people prefer simple pleasures (bringing their neighbor a gift, getting their dog extra training). These are all fantastic ways to spend, because they’re [meaningful to the spender](113/d586LZ04/VWwjc35z7r4cW5KYkjl3QW8qBW4zFhY95cH_l2N412x8T5nXHsW50kH_H6lZ3kWW8Jmq835DYPjQW23BF7c7nwG9NW2Hx2_M12qYSMW1L8FqZ6Wdm_vW9dP5DC6HqLgCW5695hV7b339FW6Z-BGn4JgrvDW6VlQ-w8qYn8lW5s5v8P5lKY9fW1VT3Z78rgTVjN3KDkCyPvy5qVm3L-L7scSYCW6n1S3-5c7Jp2W7wpZm26XjsmwW5l6-XL3t7kynVQYB_M6j64FSW3xCtQ47HmBgvW2VsW8T5-VqcnW7g4Yy71WhnZwN1lS74V5c_8KW1NVjzR3gMgF-W4LFmnz8wMy6gW73PdWG8nLVFXW1qg4kp1b9fxzW865Hs472LzNxW7FhcXZ18B64sW1j6yGg19G5zwN4M7VqNpdztPW1cDlWv88qbsgW1_d0VJ4Tj4XMW3MJlnq7tvTwxVzJ87K5WKyYpf45w9-R04). Now consider what you don’t love Today, your challenge is to do the exact opposite. Identify something you buy regularly that you don’t really LOVE. And then cut that expense mercilessly, so you have more money to spend on what matters to you. While I’m definitely not the guy who tells you to skip lattes to save a measly 5 bucks here and there, I AM the guy who asks you to be honest about what your Rich Life includes — and doesn’t. This practice is the heart of my [Conscious Spending Plan](113/d586LZ04/VWwjc35z7r4cW5KYkjl3QW8qBW4zFhY95cH_l2N412xbF3qn9gW8wLKSR6lZ3lsN8DfZs2vXFW1W3Ygfx43_H1vVW2g1yDC729mR-N8WYBjQhbcynN8VnnSvRHcxJW3YQDPJ1WSshdN4vTC_X6MkLdW6cChWc5sf0jrW3TGBTy4dJxr1N18cYP5vMWphW3Z13-H5_41wcW16qjxX36WRfnW35Bcbg4Yxn4LW5jMQ1_114_zLW58hBYl8RQ1pGW6cbzmF7C1WzsW7f06-M1d-hjwW2PbkwY3XHdB4W8pwXJQ1HmvMTW55kPYr7sTR3fW3HQK_480r_bwW8rrvr88gGw34W2qSlSn7-dWlLW1qdJsZ1C6gWdW4lW86S83gzcGW8wXMKc366R6RW5rhykP1CF0pFW5f5sXc8RJ89rdQf_G204). (If you haven’t filled your CSP out yet, I recommend taking 5-10 minutes to do it now. It will help you figure out what you can happily cut.) Cutting something you don’t love might look like: - Deactivating that $5/mo premium podcast you forgot you signed up for - Canceling the $35/mo gym membership you’ve only used twice over the last year — if you do want to go, you can always buy a day pass - Choosing a glass of the house red instead of the expensive Malbec because you just don’t care that much about wine (and that’s fine) - Returning that T-shirt you bought that fits fine, but not great - Realizing you mindlessly add $50-100 of stuff you don’t even really want to your Target cart every time you shop — and deciding to put it back on the shelf so you can buy what you actually love, guilt-free [Screenshot_unwanted subscription] I LOVE this. Other ways to cut Cutting something you don’t love can also mean negotiating down the cost of a necessity, like [your cell phone bill](113/d586LZ04/VWwjc35z7r4cW5KYkjl3QW8qBW4zFhY95cH_l2N412xbl3qn9gW7Y8-PT6lZ3pCW9bRGnx67WdS7N28FFllmhW31W7-PhT36Nz7BcW3YZY_s821225W3_jZp61W1d7-N5L_PT9N0yDlW7Ln9Hs1tyBHzW7-4bqh7vZ5QGW6NjzMV5FvwjhVL5MTC1ZfxgTW5f8R-W7L9nWJW3q8nM32dLdMqW2RJpsV1-K2r5W50rTBq8VP-myW1FyKQF8HPFCVW8kj4Xp2JX7J-N1g7sW_lzTHRW5KqDmp7z7T0pW8Xf0h197My_hW1pNYm75wMBhdVWWvwb6G-FKWW7h7Pt27zBMfQW6ZH_fq97vhNJW38Vk5z3Kh97XW2JV3T25X4kF2W6Ll5lm384Q73f8BnGzW04), credit card APR, or bank fees. Pretty sure nobody loves paying fees. And while this isn’t what most people think of as “cutting,” you can allow yourself to stop doing something you don’t really enjoy that’s no longer a financial necessity — like buying low-cost groceries when you can afford (and would prefer) to buy organic, or mending holes in a jacket that you’d really rather replace. Take my podcast guests, Brian and Rachel. They’re worth over $2 million, and Brian is even planning to retire early! But he was still clipping coupons: [Podcast Ep. 142 - Brian & Rachel](113/d586LZ04/VWwjc35z7r4cW5KYkjl3QW8qBW4zFhY95cH_l2N412xbF3qn9gW8wLKSR6lZ3n8N7xTDhhcJYm1VBHGGm6YmyNsN6_b2QHDGnlWW39JYWH1z71NFW5stt6D4K7-RDW8sln0b2764B-W6RPNW52xVPxFW77S7rx3FTsJNW5kVTbx5lVyMkW6yJ6YM5ZDHpKW7YpS058tghc_W1gKXJ547BhGKW2p2dC41vKkFwW1Hc0kn7GP6R9W2jT2y24nqB1fW7zKs7C3lhHsmN2G6YrHdMsY5W3r903c5zTsV3W6fx0M06K1ccYW6mDvfB55M_GmW5_ylWs2Hw6K1N58n9ccRtx6ZW5Mnt0T1tf6ptW6497tX1VM9WjW42ppqL1prZwrW18vD4r8bL-5rN2c-12MrvDMqW6yklx41-8PHRf3Bzttq04) Brian admitted “I think I fool myself sometimes” about how much money clipping coupons actually saves. If you’re having trouble thinking of something to cut, [consider your Money Dials](113/d586LZ04/VWwjc35z7r4cW5KYkjl3QW8qBW4zFhY95cH_l2N412xbF3qn9gW8wLKSR6lZ3mWW7M1N9S4DyhHgN8vxH2NcQD65W1CRdJ22tx-11W7-dz_d6cGg6fW11FWHB8gg8z8F5ySBC0qtZwW68Q3Zn34_YJFW8v1mR23SPkP_W2fD-FG24Gh7wW4lCG5k6H0TWSW3ykvZT8620SFW22k3wN4YpHl4W1Zymzn1tFkr8W33H2Zs3mxPmrW73r9ts4kjQkVW7b19c24cHxVHW953GjX7fRxj6W15pqr61_hgjkW4yNPS12YpGrgW4SNt1m6qjzYxW28_RQk2nj7ftW2CHBrp1J0wTzW6FCMSb90G55LW2cSBBj34_hk6W5D8K7Q8PmDvpVn7tKg6CvX5gW5y1Q6z8wklhVW94cj8q3xRMFJf1rwlvH04). Which dials would you turn up all the way if you could? Which dials could you turn down to achieve that balance? Spending consciously =/= being cheap You might think I’m telling you to be cheap. Not the case! Cheap people care about the cost of a thing. Conscious spenders care about its value. Value is subjective! What you and I care about is different. [I get a lot of flak on social media](113/d586LZ04/VWwjc35z7r4cW5KYkjl3QW8qBW4zFhY95cH_l2N412xbF3qn9gW8wLKSR6lZ3mFW6ybQcG1vy7gFW7y0RBD2Sy-gnW2TskJ571m8nkW1hSXC42FgyPgW7pTyrH2FPzCXN2VTXpl6n8VmW1-J8tX7Xg7tVW5x6w-s5ydXCPW4F0p6J3lcMb3VhsGXD56Nv-gW3h8Zrj1LTc8pW6vg0k_1H3fLbW3jq3G-3KrZtsW7DPX-t9flyDcW8q1F-c6fD97VW1N970F43N1bdW209gyr44gsMrW449pNW4JB2YKW4Tfn6Y75mn7KW81KHqL6rKQbLW64HVzw8H6cTWW1J0gC37LF7JDW9cLB1f2GtvfnW8FH-wB3NrKQRW3fkVMy8qZxhTW3Q89jj844qXLW8KkDRy4GY_JVW8WwvY37LQHBZf8fRhmY04) for spending thousands of dollars on a single cashmere sweater. But the experience of feeling different cashmere knits, learning about each of them, and choosing to treat myself to luxury that I can literally feel — that was an incredibly valuable experience for me. The point is to spend MORE on what you value, and LESS on what you don’t value. [Cheap people vs. Conscious spenders] Once you start thinking about spending on what you love and ruthlessly cutting what you don’t, you might realize some of the goals you’ve been reaching for actually aren’t part of YOUR Rich Life. Those goals might come from other people’s expectations. Other people’s dreams. Other people’s Rich Lives. And why would you want to live someone else’s Rich Life when you could be living your own? [Why I dont own a house as a multi-millionaire](113/d586LZ04/VWwjc35z7r4cW5KYkjl3QW8qBW4zFhY95cH_l2N412xbF3qn9gW8wLKSR6lZ3lBW6FgZWH96pBxTW3-bc-b2GhbxCW6mn4Z77465X4W7V-8MJ80sxyRW3gHTCc75Sn-dW8WZ1Yg399jJHN7zQZbRFgnvpN5_fcPtydc6pW6JdCG33NKWZgW7_C0KN479jZ3W1RCK-s5CFCjjW4KcvQ02KsL3_W3BT6V24nDPl1VWDyCc58Tsc9W7Gxt7V2Km5XcW2yZYq11c1n2GW2Nrhzj3BlV5VW2ldMdF70JV1CW7V9HMw4yLc5wW3flh9882FMT2W18WTbM5Xl3xfW9lBRbv7cqvNZW292G5c6wkZcNW4M-Z9f5QX8DqW1LRTxC2KNyWTW1YGXXM2mVwNjVjDZGM6mg7RXW4bwV4D8NVrqpf81Ztcl04) I could buy a house right now, but I’d rather enjoy the flexibility and convenience of renting. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
