This week, Chinese state media announced that the government has established a new “ethics assessment committee” to vet online game releases. So the government will begin approving new titles, right? Well, we’re afraid not. Out of the first 20 titles that the committee has reviewed, 9 were rejected, while the remaining 11 were sent back to the creators for changes. [Read more on Gamasutra.]( The launch of an Epic store It’s official. Epic Games, the creators behind Fortnite, have launched their own store. While right now only a few titles are available for download, Epic is saying that there are still a lot more titles to come. Why is this so significant? A while back Epic announced that they will be circumventing the Play Store due to the 30% cut taken by Google. In their store, the revenue split will be significantly smaller - taking only 12% from publishers. Epic announced that the store will [support all 7 major platforms]( (iOS, Android, PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch). They discuss how rewarded ads are increasingly being embraced as an ad format that provides true value for consumers, with a delivery that consumers actually prefer (yes, exactly what we’ve been saying all along). The report highlights that opt-in value exchange advertising has officially gone mainstream, and they predict that “the future of mobile advertising in interactive.” The IAB is planning on releasing a full consumer study on interactive ads in the new year.
