The IAB Tech Lab is finally releasing the specs for the beta version of its Ads.txt initiative that aims to reduce counterfeit ad inventory. Wait, what is Ads.txt? It’s an IAB approved text file that aims to prevent unauthorized inventory sales - ultimately it's a mechanism that can be put in place to prevent fraud. Why the holdup? Ads.txt was originally released in May 2017, however due to pushback from the app stores, only now are they close to releasing the mobile version called app-ads.txt. Apple’s App Store and Google Play have yet to actually implement these txt files, however the IAB is essentially saying they don’t care and are pushing through with the project anyways.
