Berkshire and the world will never be the same [Click to view in browser](. Good afternoon, Investing = Warren Buffett. We know that to be as true as air helps us to breathe. At 90 years old, his presence looms large over markets, along with his partner Charlie Munger, who is 97 years old. So what does life look like after these two nonagenarian lions pass from this Earth? Berkshire’s future For one thing, Vice Chairman Greg Abel will helm Berkshire Hathaway, at least according to a slip by Charlie Munger in a recent interview. Berkshire and Warren Buffett are synonymous with value investing. A student of famed investor Benjamin Graham, Buffett said his acquisition of textile Berkshire Hathaway was a ‘monumentally stupid decision.’ He’s since made up for it with a net worth that is estimated at ~$100 billion. Over the years, Buffett succeeded with investments in Geico insurance, American Express, Coca-Cola, Capital Cities/ABC, Freddie Mac, and a multitude of banking stocks during the financial crisis. What’s interesting is how he went about it. It’s easy to get swept up in GameStop mania or Tesla to the moon. Warren Buffett was never interested in quick, massive gains. Instead, he looked for extreme value that built over time. In reality, his goal was a 20% return per year. That’s led Berkshire Hathaway to grow at a nice, steady pace. And that doesn’t always work for some folks. His company’s performance severely underperformed the S&P 500 in the last year. In fact, you’d need to go back nearly 20 years to find that Berkshire beats out the S&P 500. However, that ignores the lower volatility of Berkshire’s stock price compared to the market. Said differently, given long enough, Buffett wins out with less risk. Our hot take Warren Buffett acts as an anchor to our sanity, combating our irrational emotions with common sense. He won’t be around forever. Hopefully, we learn something from him. Buffett said he hasn’t been a fan of the SPACs and Charlie Munder certainly laid out his disgust for cryptocurrencies.
