Analysts miss big time [Click to view in browser](. Good afternoon, Netflix reported earnings last night. And if gifs were words, it would go something like this… [Fall Trip GIF by Angry Birds] Wall Street analysts expected 6.2 million new subscribers in Q4. Netflix delivered 3.98 million. Remember these guys are paid to come up with the wrong numbers! Q1 looks abysmal for Netflix as they expect to add only about 1 million new subscribers. WTF Netflix?? Two major factors contributed to their performance: the pandemic and streaming competition. Initially, Covid provided a boon for the streamer as customers remained captivated and captured in their homes. But so was their talent. That led to delays in production that left their Q1 releases lighter than normal. At the same time, Baby Yoda went for the jugular. Disney+ hit 100 million subscribers last year, just 16 months after its launch. Viewers flocked to the channel with their new lineup of Star Wars Mandelorion episodes which delivered a meme generating doll that stole our hearts. That’s on top of their Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU for you newbs) releases of Wandavision and Captain Falcon and The Winter Soldier. All series noted here have been watched and recommended by our lead editor who seems to have too much free time on his hands. Other entrants including NBC with their Peacock, Discovery+, and Paramount+ all had fairly successful launches. Our hot take Netflix’s future depends on its content. It lost key brands and needs to make up for it NOW. Consumers are fickle. Right now, Netflix delivers broader and better content than the other providers. That can quickly change. Now, Netflix may be tossing around tech stocks today. But we’ve pulled together some other key news and content sure to make waves.
