[Integrative Nutrition](
Dear Colleagues, Students, and IIN Community,
I wanted to let you know that I am thinking about all of you during this troubling time. As we remember George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other black people who were victims of violent deaths as a result of terrible acts of prejudice and racism, we at IIN stand in solidarity with our employees, students, and communities of color. The systemic inequality and injustice that afflict black and brown people in our country must stop. IIN is committed to listening and working to create much-needed change.
We do not tolerate racism, and as educators, we know we must work hard to create real change. As we teach, we believe change starts at home and within ourselves first. Although these events are heartbreaking and unacceptable, it has highlighted what our world needs to do better. We know we have a responsibility to set an example and fight for what is right. We must utilize our IIN core values and continue being the source of positive change in the world, as well as to consistently strive to do better.
At the heart of IIN, we have always focused on making the right choice. Today, we need to [choose love](. We need to choose to include rather than exclude. And, most important, we need to stand together and choose to take action. We need to choose to be the ripple of change around the world.
To that end, we have committed to the following actions:
- This month, we will make a $250,000 donation to the NAACP, consisting of 35 IIN scholarships and a cash donation. We believe IINâs mission to create a ripple effect of health and happiness in the world is aligned with the NAACPâs mission to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure health and well-being. Education is needed more now than ever.
- We are starting to reach out to create partnerships with equal rights organizations to allow for integration of their content into our media platforms and educational curriculums.
- Throughout the year, we will give additional scholarships nominated by you, our community, starting with our upcoming Health Coach Day on June 16.
- We will assemble an Inclusion and Diversity Student and Graduate Council so that our black and brown students have a greater voice and the ability to be heard.
As educators, we believe learning and growth is a lifelong pursuit, and we urge you to review our recommended reading list on what it means to be antiracist and how to educate your children because there cannot be viable and long-lasting change without education and choosing love.
