‌ Your Doctor’s Dirty Little Secret You need to read this. [Health Watch] Sponsored Content Breathe like THIS to live longer It’s a shocking but [little known fact]( Weak lungs makes you FIVE times more likely to die from heart disease. Do you know how strong your lungs are? [lung health]( Your doctor probably checks your blood pressure every time you visit, but not your lung strength – even though the simple and painless test to measure it literally takes a single second. [And strong lungs mean longer life.]( And it’s a CRITICAL, but over-looked indicator of your overall health. To learn what it is (and how to naturally improve it), [click here](. [Click here]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Your Doctor’s Dirty Little Secret It’s so routine we don’t even think about it… During just about every doctor appointment, your physician takes his or her stethoscope in hand, tells you take a deep breath, and places it against your chest and back to listen to your lungs and heart. This widely practiced part of physicals can actually make you sick, researchers have found. Unbeknownst to your doctor, stethoscopes are often loaded with bacteria. Some of them can cause serious infections. That’s the disturbing conclusion of research published in the journal Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology. The authors analyzed stethoscopes used in an intensive care unit. They looked at both regular stethoscopes and disposable ones. Disposable stethoscopes are used on one patient and then thrown away. Stethoscopes Are Often Contaminated With Staph Germs The study found that all stethoscopes that had been used on patients were contaminated with a wide variety of bacteria. Many are known to cause life-threatening infections. The bacteria that cause staph infections, Staphylococcus, were found in large quantities on all stethoscopes. More than half the instruments had S. aureus. This kind of staph bacteria can cause fatal diseases such as pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis. A separate study backed up the findings. It analyzed bacteria on 39 stethoscopes used by doctors with different specialties. Nearly 40% of the stethoscopes were contaminated with disease-causing germs. Even more alarming is the fact that that two of the stethoscopes contained deadly antibiotic-resistant staph bacteria. These so-called “superbugs” kill some 35,000 Americans a year. You might think that learning to clean your stethoscope would be a basic part of medical school training… But you’d be wrong. Dr. Ronald Collman was senior author of the study. He says disinfecting stethoscopes wasn’t part of his training. What’s more, he doesn’t know if it’s taught now. “But it would be an excellent idea,” he says. He also recommends greater use of disposable stethoscopes. --------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Content [At-home cancer test] Look at your fingernails like THIS What can [this strange fingernail sign]( tell you about cancer? It’s a [red flag warning test]( developed over 40 years ago and used by doctors around the world… But very few people ever know about it. It takes 3 seconds and [this special presentation]( shows you just how effective it can be. They included using hydrogen peroxide wipes, alcohol swabs, and bleach wipes. All reduced bacteria on stethoscopes. Before your doctor uses a stethoscope on you, tell him or her about this study. You can even bring this article to the appointment. Explain that you’d prefer the instrument be cleaned before it’s used on you. Or ask if disposable stethoscopes are available.
