mlns='> Here’s how content can help conquer the plastics problem [View Message in Browser]( / [Add Us to Safe Sender List]( [Content Marketing Institute]( [Content Marketing Institute]( Daily News and Alert 4.22.24 Connect with CMI Happy Earth Day! If ever there was a cause worthy of activation-focused content marketing, it’s this annual push for environmental advocacy and activism. This year’s theme, set by host organization [Earthday.org]( focuses on one of our planet’s most insidious pollutants — plastics, which are produced at a rate of more than [380 million tons]( per year. It’s a clever choice: Whether or not you are concerned about global climate change, it’s hard to deny that landfills overflowing with single-use water bottles and microplastics seeping into our water supply don’t negatively impact environmental health. It also gives marketers an organic opportunity to forge trusted connections with eco-conscious consumers. By sharing inspiring stories, educational resources, and other relevant content, brands and nonprofits alike can contribute to conservation efforts — and empower their audiences to do the same. Not sure what kinds of content to create? Earthday.org’s (and others’) content offerings for 2024 may spark some ideas: - Educate your audience: [Fact sheets]( [quizzes]( [research reports]( and other data-driven content assets help consumers better understand the challenges plaguing our planet and how they can help solve them. - Create [tool-kits]( and [petitions]( Consumers appreciate content that doesn’t just tell them to get involved; it provides them with easy, actionable ways to do so. - Think local: Follow the lead of communities like [ClimateCafe]( by using your social posts to raise awareness of [volunteer opportunities]( and Earth Day celebrations in the areas where your business operates. This Earth Day, you can expect to see plenty of content from brands eager to capitalize on the eco-excitement. But before you add yours to the pile, make sure it doesn’t conflict with what your business says and does the rest of the year. Otherwise, instead of earning consumers’ trust and goodwill, they might see your content as empty, green-washed vessels littering the digital landscape. No matter what inspires your brand to take action, here are some ideas and resources to (solar) power your efforts this week.  Jodi Harris Director of Editorial & Content Strategy Content Marketing Institute [Share your feedback](mailto:jodi.harris@informa.com?subject=CMI%20content%20feedback&elqTrackId=C78334B47849D341D3EB845595B6607C)  ICYMI: [Attention vs. Trust: Which Should Content Marketers Prioritize?]( Consumers might spend time engaging with your content, but that doesn’t mean they trust your business.
