QCon NY : Stack Overflow Developer Survey, Confirmed Talks, & Reasons Why You Should Attend QCon Sta

QCon NY (Jun 27-29): Stack Overflow Developer Survey, Confirmed Talks, & Reasons Why You Should Attend QCon Stack Overflow recently published their [7th annual survey]( of over 100,000 software developers. The 2018 study identified a number of interesting trends software engineers should know about, including: - Languages and frameworks in DevOps and machine learning are on the rise - Rust, Python & Kotlin were reported to be the most "wanted" or sought after languages for developers - Developers are overall optimistic about the possibilities that artificial intelligence offer, but are not in agreement about what the dangers may be [QCon New York](, the senior software developers' conference hosted at the Times Square Marriott Marquis, features many of the same trends that surfaced in the Stack Overflow survey. A few of these are highlighted below. [Mike McGarr](, Manager of Developer Productivity @Netflix and Co-Host of the Productivity Engineering Silicon Valley Meetup, leads our Developer Experience track. Called [Developer Experience: Level up Your Engineering Effectiveness](, McGarr's track will take a holistic end-to-end view of the development lifecycle. Early likely talks include languages and productivity as well as practices for rebuilding apps with an eye on developer productivity. [21st Century Languages]( is a track focused on features and proofs for modern software languages making real world impact. In the past, the track has featured talks showing the power of [coroutines with Kotlin](, [server-side Swift](, [opinionated Microservice development with Go](, [nullable types with C#](, and [rethinking networking with Rust](. This year's track host, Carmen Andoh, is an Infrastructure Engineer at Travis CI and is exploring talks featuring Rust, Go, Kotlin, C++ and potentially, Swift. To dive deeper into the ethics of software today, [Theo Schlossnagle]( (Founder and CEO @Circonus, ACM Practitioners Board member, Co-chair of the ACM Queue) is hosting the [Ethics in Computing]( track. Schlossnagle will explore inclusivity in software and societal relationships with tech. AI and its implications for software is likely to be a big theme. In addition, the [Practical Machine Learning]( track focuses hard on how software engineers can apply machine learning and AI in their day-to-day. The track is hosted by [Zoran Sevarac]( (Java and Neural Network Expert, Creator @Neuroph, & Founder @DeepNetts). QCon NY has a solid reputation of content developed and curated specifically for senior developers, architects and leaders who drive change and innovation on their teams. As each talk is individually selected by our hosts, the content process takes a bit longer than you may be used to. Here are some of the early confirmations for QCon NY: - [Envoy for observability & debuggability of dist systems @ Lyft]( by Matt Klein, Creator of Envoy & Software Engineer @Lyft - [UNBREAKABLE: Learning to bend but not break @ Netflix]( by Haley Tucker Senior Software Engineer, Playback Features @Netflix - [No Microservice is an Island]( by Michele Titolo, Tech Lead and Architect @Square - [Designing Events-First Microservices]( by Jonas Boner, Founder & CTO @Lightbend / Creator of Akka - [Skype's Re-Architecture - from Super-Nodes to Scalable Server-Based]( by Bruce Lowekamp (Principal Architect for Skype's Cloud Infrastructure Portfolio @Microsoft) - Deep Learning for Application Performance Optimization by [Zoran Sevarac]( (Java and Neural Network Expert, Creator @Neuroph, & Founder @DeepNetts) With 15 tracks and over 100 speakers and sessions, QCon New York 2018 is a densely packed opportunity to learn from the software industry's brightest. Still not sure? QCon New York 2018 features: - Architecture/Developer focus with 78 technical talks on topics like microservices, reactive, interservice communication and event sourcing from architects/engineers at Netflix, Lyft, Google - 15 total tracks across three days around topics such as Serverless, Java, Chaos Engineering, Blockchains & Microservices - Attendee to Speaker ratio ~8 to 1 so you can network with software leaders - See all of the [confirmed speakers]( online at [QConNewYork.com]( Whether your interest is in advancing your knowledge in software architecture, learning how to stay relevant in the tech industry, or acquiring new skills in Python, Rust or Go-lang, QCon has the advanced technical sessions from the world’s most innovative software companies from which you want to learn.
