Her latest sounds to me particularly fascinating because it centres on two male protagonists; Intermezzo will tell the story of two brothers who are grieving their father, and juggling love affairs as they do so. Her novels might have largely centred on women so far – Conversations With Friends’ Bobbi and Frances, Normal People’s Marianne, Beautiful World’s Alice – but Normal People’s [secretly sad Connell](~/AAAHagA~/RgRnxWIzP0S2aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaW5kZXBlbmRlbnQuY28udWsvYXJ0cy1lbnRlcnRhaW5tZW50L3R2L2ZlYXR1cmVzL3BhdWwtbWVzY2FsLW5vcm1hbC1wZW9wbGUtaW50ZXJ2aWV3LWJiYy1zYWxseS1yb29uZXktZGFpc3ktZWRnYXItam9uZXMtc2V4LWNvbnNlbnQtc3VpY2lkZS1hOTQ4NzQxMS5odG1sP2xpZD0zdXBoa25mMzY4cWRXBXNwY2V1Qgpl4jPd4mUaypvBUht0cmlzdHJhbWJhbGR3aW45MEBnbWFpbC5jb21YBAAAAyM~) is arguably her most enduring and magnetic character. So Intermezzo could be a winner. Either way, Rooney is the leading literary star of her generation, so it’s always exciting to see what she’s going to come up with next. It’s cherubic. Sweet. Completely terrifying in certain lighting. In Prisoners, 12 Years a Slave and The Batman, the latter of which saw him play The Riddler to Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight, he gave good villain. For the lopsided romcom Ruby Sparks, the Beach Boys biopic Love & Mercy and Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical The Fabelmans, in which he played the proxy of the director’s father, he leaned in the other direction. These were the films that harnessed that slight woundedness of his, that sense of a fragile soul on the cusp of total implosion. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
