[The Independent]( June 07, 2023 [View online]( [Morning Headlines]( 1 /[Prince Harry launches astonishing attack on ârock bottomâ government and âbloodstainedâ press]( [Prince Harry]( railed against Britainâs government and press on Tuesday in another day of bombshell allegations at his phone-hacking case against the publisher of the Daily Mirror. Abandoning the convention that royals do not comment on politics, the Duke of Sussex said both [Rishi Sunak](âs administration and the media were at ârock bottomâ, and that it was harming British democracy. Harry, the first royal to testify in court since 1891, claimed the government was âscaredâ of alienating British newspapers âbecause position is powerâ. In a scathing broadside. he accused journalists of having âbloodâ staining their âtyping fingersâ. It prompted some Tory MPs to call for Harry to renounce his title, arguing he had broken the âgolden ruleâ of royals not getting involved in politics. Harry alleges that 140 articles published between 1996 and 2010 contained information Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) gathered using unlawful methods. But lawyers for MGN suggested the royalâs claims of phone hacking are âin the realms of total speculationâ. 2 /[I decide whatâs relevant, says Covid inquiry chair in Boris WhatsApp row]( Security experts to turn on Boris Johnsonâs old phone in hunt for Whatsapps as row widens to the Foreign Office 3 / [Woman accusing Andrew Tate of rape says she lost consciousness]( Influencer Andrew Tate âvehemently denies the accusations and does not condone violence of any kind towards womenâ spokesperson says 4 / [This Morning editorâs aubergine rant was âextremely ill-judgedâ, ITV boss says]( Martin Frizellâs response to allegations of a âtoxicâ work environment on the programme was âdismissive and flippantâ, Magnus Brooke told MPs 5 /[Thousands face evacuation after destruction of huge Ukraine dam blamed on Russian forces]( Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky calls attack on dam a âwar crimeâ and the âlargest manmade environmental disaster in Europe in decadesâ THE BIG QUESTION [Why is jeans shopping still a total nightmare?]( Taking off yet another pair of [jeans]( that simply wouldnât fit, I was on the verge of tears. Under the harsh glare of the dressing room lights, my reddening face felt even more humiliating as I shimmied myself back into my own clothes. I had dedicated the day to jeans [shopping]( and started it feeling optimistic, but this was quickly waning. This was the sixth store, and the seventh pair Iâd tried on. None of them were happening. I question why Iâve spent hours traipsing around Oxford Street, dodging crowds and trying not to get hit by a black cab. Jeans shopping is not fun. Itâs a mission. More than three years ago, I swore off jeans for the foreseeable future. At the time, I was practically living in a pair of faded black M&S high-waist, straight-cut jeans that were cropped right above my ankle. The search for those jeans had also been painful, so when I found this perfect pair, I told myself that was it â I was never going to buy jeans again.
