As anger mounts among Brexiteers over a possible deal, the prime minister has been told that unhappy ministers could resign. However, senior [Tories]( urged Mr Sunak to call their bluff. Health minister [Maria Caulfield](, who herself quit Theresa May's frontbench over her Brexit plan, urged Tory MPs to âsupport the prime ministerâ. And Tobias Ellwood, a former minister who chairs the Commons defence committee, told The Independent: âAllowing this to drag on, unresolved, shows how increasingly out of touch we look on both sides in the [Irish Sea](. âThe prime minister should ignore the shrill voices that opine after a model of Brexit that a growing population can no longer relate to and will punish us at the next election if we donât moderate our now-dated stance.â Brexiteers say they are prepared to force a showdown vote in parliament on any agreement between the EU and the UK. 2 / [Biden hails unity of West and Ukrainiansâ resolve in Warsaw address]( In Poland, Biden says the Ukrainian capital âstands strongâ and âstands freeâ and hails the courage of Kyivâs defenders 3 / [Supermarkets ration fruit and vegetables with warning over panic buying]( Supplies from Britainâs major winter sources have also been badly affected by weather 4 /[Duchess of York âwill do all she canâ to earn enough to stop Prince Andrew being forced out of Royal Lodge]( Exclusive: Duchess wants to be Prince Andrewâs âfinancial saviourâ as she tries to help him stay at Royal Lodge in Windsor 5 / [Liverpool slip again as Real Madrid comeback cements position as kings of Europe]( Liverpool 2-5 Real Madrid: A 2-0 Liverpool lead soon turned into a heavy defeat on a nightmare night at Anfield The Big Question What is sudden stratospheric warming? The current mild weather in Britain could come to an end in the first week of March as a result of a phenomenon known as sudden stratospheric warming, [which is currently brewing above the Arctic](, the Met Office has warned. Theoretically, although there is little to indicate it will happen at present, these conditions could bring a new â[Beast from the East](â to the UK, reminiscent of that bitter winter storm the British Isles experienced in early March 2018, which saw heavy [snow](, ice and strong winds cause 17 fatalities and bring the country to a standstill. Forecaster Aidan McGivern [said](: âWe are seeing a major sudden stratospheric warming taking place above the North Pole and what that means is that the winds in the stratosphere surrounding the North Pole are expected to reverse, instead of going from west to east they are going to go from east to west. âThat can have a drag effect on the jet stream, which can slow the jet stream down, which can, in turn, lead to higher pressure at the surface, a blocking area of high pressure, blocking wind and rain from the Atlantic and sometimes leading to colder conditions. Thatâs why sudden stratospheric warmings increase the chance of cold weather. âNot immediately, though, although this is taking place right now, there is a lag effect so we are not expecting an impact, if any, to take place until the first week of March.â [For the full story click here >]( Enjoying this newsletter?
