The Independent's Morning Headlines email [View online]( February 06, 2023 [Morning Headlines]( 1 / [Hundreds killed as powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocks Turkey and Syria]( More than 190 people have been reported dead and dozens trapped under debris after a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southeast Turkey and Syria during the early hours of Monday. The quake was centred north of the city of Gaziantep in an area about 60 miles from the Syrian border. The powerful jolt toppled hundreds of buildings, sending residents into the snowy streets for safety. Turkey’s disaster and emergency management agency said the quake killed at least 76 people in seven provinces, including Malatya, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir and Osmaniye. At least 400 people were left injured. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that “search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched" to the areas hit by the quake. “We hope that we will get through this disaster together as soon as possible and with the least damage,” he said in a tweet.   2 / [NHS faces biggest strike yet as thousands of nurses and ambulance crews walk out]( ‘We’re facing a crunch point’, NHS leaders say 3 /[Headteacher of Surrey private school found dead alongside husband and seven-year-old daughter]( Emma Pattinson, 45, had been headteacher of £42,000 per year Epsom College for just six months 4 / [Broken CCTV camera ‘would have seen everything’ in Nicola Bulley disappearance]( Police are appealing for dashcam and doorbell camera footage which could shine a light on the mother-of-two’s whereabouts 5 / [Harry Styles wins Grammy for Album of the Year]( Styles was in the running against fellow pop giants including Adele and Beyoncé     The Big Question What are the unanswered questions over the disappearance of Nicola Bulley? The disappearance of Nicola Bulley has puzzled police since she was last seen on the morning of 27 January. The mother-of-two disappeared while on her regular dog walk in the quiet village of St Michael’s on Wyre, Lancashire. Dropping her children off at school, she took her spaniel Willow for a stroll by the river and was sighted at around 9am by a witness but despite an extensive search, she has yet to be found. In a police conference held on February 3, Lancashire Police stated that their main working hypothesis was that Ms Bulley “fell” into the river, and was “not suspicious”, but the “tragic case of a missing person.” But Ms Bulley’s family contest that idea and as the mystery continues, we look at unanswered questions surrounding her disappearance. Lancashire Police have a ten-minute window in which they cannot account for Ms Bulley’s movements. [For the full story click here >](   Enjoying this newsletter?
