I hope your day will contain multiple listens of Last Christmas by Wham, plenty of Baileys, and zero Christmas shopping, because I know mine will. Weâve had fun looking back on the yearâs cultural highlights over the last few weeks. The Indyâs theatre critics [picked our favourite shows of 2022](, and I was really cheered by the sheer breadth of gems weâve seen on stage since the year began. Personal shout outs from me to Lucy Kirkwoodâs That Is Not Who I Am, Tammy Faye at the Almeida, Othello at the National Theatre and The Bandâs Visit at the Donmar Warehouse â but [youâll have to read the full list to see what bagged our top spo](t. Iâm looking forward to catching up with some of the great stuff that I missed out on this year, from The Northman ([our film critic Clarisse Loughreyâs top pick of the year]() to the universally-agreed-to-be-adorable Heartstopper. Thatâs before I dive into my reading pile of 2023 books (of which more next week). Wishing you a wonderful Christmas, Jessie [@jessiecath]( 'Tammy Faye', 'Othello' and 'I, Joan' make our list of 2022's best theatre (Marc Brenner/Myah Jeffers/Helen Murray) This week I loved: Holly Williams's [look back at 75 years of]([A Streetcar Named Desire](. [The Saturday Interview â Kate Hudson]( [Oscars image]( Kate Hudson stars 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery' (Gavin Bond) Adam White's [interview with Kate Hudson](is a dream of a read. They talked about journaling, feeling all the feelings, cancel culture, nepo babies, and her role in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. [Oscars image]( Kate Hudson and the cast of 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery' (John Wilson/Netflix) Read an extract from our Saturday Interview below⦠Hudson is huddled in the corner of a sofa in navy blue trousers and a matching top with flared sleeves. She looks characteristically serene and sun-kissed, her hair in long, beachy waves. Thereâs an urban legend among interviewers that claims your subject is more likely to open up to you if you mirror their body language â I have no idea if this is true. But within a few minutes of trying to emulate Hudson, I realise I look slightly insane. Sheâs always moving. On the sofa. Off the sofa. Hands pulled up into her sleeves. Hands through her hair. Feet on the table. Feet curled up under her. I call it a day. People love Kate Hudson. Men. Women. Whoever. Sheâs equal-opportunity crush material: a symbol of airy, cultured bonhomie. I ponder out loud if the adoration is a side effect of her romcoms, but sheâs not sure. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Raising Helen did, though, cement her as a kind of metropolitan, mid-Noughties dream girl. Then again, thereâs also Almost Famous, with her rock-star muse Penny Lane â so luminous that youâd happily follow her to whatever dingy music venue she felt drawn to. Youâd at least want to hang out with her as she shopped for fur-lined jackets. Hudson concedes that those parts may have aided the love-ins she inspires. But she also thinks people gravitate towards her because sheâs âimperfectâ. [Read the full interview here]( Enjoying this newsletter?
