Sergei Shoigu, the Kremlinâs defence minister, told troops on Wednesday to withdraw from the west bank of the Dnipro River in the face of continued Ukrainian attacks. The announcement could signal one of Russiaâs most significant retreats and a potential turning point in the war. Kherson, a port city in the south of Ukraine, is the only regional centre Moscowâs forces had captured and held since President Putin launched the invasion in February. The Kremlin annexed it in September. In televised comments, Sergei Surovikin, the general in overall command of the war, said it was no longer possible to supply the city. He said he proposed to take up defensive lines on the eastern bank of the river, admitting it was ânot a very simple decisionâ. 2 / [Food banks run out of supplies as charities see record number of users]( Food banks said that this âwinter will be the hardest yetâ and warned that stock levels were running low 3 / [Republican midterm âred waveâ hopes evaporate as House and Senate remain too close to call]( House and Senate Democrats started their days expecting to begin hearing bad news 4 / [Strike by London Underground workers to go ahead after last-minute talks fail]( The union said it asked TfL to pause job cuts and detrimental pension changes to give both sides the space to come to a negotiated settlement. 5 / [British man killed in Ukraine as family pay tribute to âreal life heroâ]( Simon Lingard died fighting against Russia, said son The Big Question Which hospital trusts are affected by the nurses's strike?
