The Independent's Morning Headlines email [View online]( March 03, 2022 [Morning Headlines]( 1 / [One million Ukrainian refugees flee as Kherson falls to Russian troops]( Russia's troops have taken "complete control" of Ukraine's port city of Kherson, a spokesperson for Moscow's defence ministry has claimed. Kherson is the first major city to be taken by Russia since the beginning of the invasion. Its mayor, Igor Kolykhaev, said that Russian troops had forced their way into the city council building and imposed a curfew on residents. As a result of the fighting, one million people have fled Ukraine so far, the UN refugee agency said. The UK's ministry of defence have also said that the Russian advance on the capital Kyiv has been delayed by "staunch Ukrainian resistance, mechanical breakdown and congestion". They said that the column remains more than 30km from the centre of the city. 2 / [Explosion rocks Kyiv near train station where thousands are being evacuated]( No details on casualties but blast may have cut off central heating in parts of Ukraine's capital 3 / [Roman Abramovich confirms intention to sell Chelsea]( The Russian billionaire, who has owned Chelsea since 2003, said he will donate all net proceeds from the sale to a charitable foundation for 'victims of war' in Ukraine. 4 / [Pressure on Boris Johnson to tighten net on Russian oligarchs' 'dirty money']( Officials aware of money being shifted out of UK to beat crackdown 5 / [At least 125 women killed in UK since Sarah Everard was kidnapped and murdered]( Exclusive: Campaigner warns 'things haven't changed' on year on from death that sparked nationwide outrage. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly called on the West to declare and enforce a “no-fly zone” over its airspace to block the Russian Air Force from attacking its cities during the present invasion. Such a measure would effectively render Russia’s huge military superiority in the air null and void but would require extensive policing, presumably by planes belonging to the Western allies representing Nato. The military alliance is refusing to countenance the idea. This is why.
