INC. THIS MORNING How to build an authentic brand that can survive challenging times Good morning, When Veronica and Miguel Garza fought as kids, their parents had an interesting solution: Make them hug for 15 minutes to work it out. Today, the sibling co-founders of tortilla maker Siete Family Foods ascribe their business success to that parenting hack--or, at the very least, the foundation of love and trust it created. The Garzas launched their Austin-based company in 2014, and have since raised $90 million while landing their grain-free and dairy-free Mexican-American foods on the shelves of 13,000 grocery stores nationwide. “We try to be passionate, but we also want to be compassionate,” Miguel Garza, Siete’s CEO, said on Wednesday during the first of Inc.’s Your Next Move virtual events. “We want to be bold, but we also want to be humble.” Humility was a theme throughout the webinar, in which Garza spoke about how to build a brand that can survive challenging times, from sibling disagreements to a global pandemic. While Siete’s funding has helped insulate the company financially this year, Garza said the company couldn’t have raised that money if he and his sister hadn’t been able let go of their egos--allowing them to realize they needed a partner to help them scale. The founders also needed to make sure their company’s public image represented those internal values. Read our recap to [learn how building an authentic brand can help your company grow](.
