These delicate, fingerless mitts are perfection for chilly days! [ILK Preview]( July 21, 2023  [These delicate, fingerless mitts are perfection for chilly days!]( Fight off the winter blues with these beauties [Mock Cabled Mitts] Dear Knitter, A lacy pattern with tiny nupps decorates Quenna Lee’s Mock Cabled Mitts. Quenna’s design is full of techniques that’ll pique your interest; you’ll knit cables, mock cables, lace, and little nupps. Nupps are Estonian stitches that are similar to bobbles in that you knit into one stitch several times to make a bump. They’re lower-profile than most bobbles, adding just the right amount of dimension to a lacy pattern. You’ll see them embellishing those breathtaking Estonian gossamer shawls, and Quenna uses them perfectly here. Mock cables frame a beautiful traveling stitch pattern that evokes a set of leaves, and the nupps create the perfect touch of texture. In this pattern, the nupps are completed by knitting the stitches together through the back loops on the wrong side. There are five stitches to work together, so get out those pointy needles! (You can also use a crochet hook to wrangle the yarn through the five stitches.) The Mock Cabled Mitts include all of the best features of mitten and glove patterns, including perhaps the most important, the thumb gusset. This technique uses strategically placed increases to make room for the base of your thumb—adding that extra bit of fabric makes these mitts fit perfectly. Although this an intermediate pattern, it’s perfect for the adventurous, advanced beginner. You’ll practice so many skills and end up with a beautiful and useful finished product.
