Your cutie pie will love this charming crochet onesie. Plus, it’s fun to stitch! [ILK Weekly]( July 26, 2021  [Cuteness overload is an understatement with the Oliver the Owl Onesie!]( Dress little ones in this for a fun day out, or as a charming first-Halloween costume [Oliver the Owl Onesie]( Dear Knitting Enthusiast, Cuteness overload alert! Amy Gunderson has done it again with her [Oliver the Owl Onesie](. Your baby will be just “hootiful” in this outfit. Dress little ones in this for a fun day out or use it as a charming first-Halloween costume. The delight starts at the ankle and increases as it travels upward, ending with an adorable hat featuring an owl face. Those oversize eyes really draw you in! A feather look is achieved by an easy slip-stitch pattern that uses one color per row to achieve a multi-color pattern that really does evoke the look of feathers. It’s fantastic! Amy’s patterns always feature creative techniques, and this one is no different. The little legs are worked in ribbing, on a needle two sizes smaller than the size used for the body and hat. The smaller needle and ribbing pattern make the legs snug (but not too snug!), so they hug baby’s legs without riding up. Knit as a single piece from the legs up, the onesie is worked in one piece to the armholes and then the fronts and back are knit separately. The sleeves are also knit separately and then sewed on. The only seaming is on the shoulders and the sleeves. The hat is simplicity itself; it’s a knit rectangle, folded in half and seamed. Here, the creative fun comes in adding the face. Neat, circular eye bases are easily knit from the edge in on double-pointed needles and finished off with buttons in two sizes. The little orange beak knits up in just seven rows and adds a fun pop of color. Finally, the pièce de résistance, the ear “feathers.” Two-tone tassels are just the thing, and the pattern includes directions for making two perfect specimens. Voilà ! Oliver’s face is complete. The [Oliver the Owl]( Onesie pattern includes: - A list of necessary yarn and tools - Row-by-row instructions - Feather Slip-Stitch downloadable charts - A downloadable pattern schematic - Pattern notes to help you get the perfect fit - Detailed photography Baby will look precious dressed up as Oliver, and you’ll have so much fun knitting this cutie-pie costume. The [Oliver the Owl Onesie]( also makes a truly special baby shower gift. You’ll spread the smiles with this darling knit.
