# [LinkedIn]( [Twitter]( [Facebook]( Hi {NAME}, In our last email, we introduced ourselves and talked a little about what we do here at IHHP. As you’ve probably already figured out, we really believe in? Emotional intelligence. But why? What makes emotional intelligence so powerful? In today’s email, we want to share a little more about this skill and why it is so essential to organizations in creating effective and happy teams. Emotional intelligence and other so-called “soft” skills can be more important than IQ In all of our years working with leading-edge organizations around the world, we have learned that the smartest people in an organization are not always the most effective. What distinguishes the most productive employees from the average is emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is one of the 10 key skills identified by the [World Economic Forum]( for thriving in the future workplace. Luckily, unlike IQ our emotional intelligence isn’t something we’re born with; it can be developed and improved. Emotional Intelligence isn’t just one thing - it’s three. But what exactly is emotional intelligence? We like to think of it as three distinct skills: self-awareness, emotional management, and emotional connection. A high level of these three skills results in a high emotional intelligence, and in turn, allows us to build better relationships, lead teams more effectively, and perform better under pressure. [Want to learn more about why EI is the skill of the future workplace - download our ebook]( In our next email we’re going to share a little more about the brain science behind emotional intelligence and why self awareness and emotional management are so important.
