âï¸ Tesla Recalls 2 Million Cars to Address Autopilot "Defect" TLDR: Tesla will recall more than two million cars in the U.S. to fix a “defect” in the brand’s Autopilot system. That's pretty much every Model S, 3, X and Y since 2015. Why It Matters: The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued the recall notice on Monday, following a two-year investigation regarding a number of accidents that occurred with Tesla’s vehicles using the Autopilot system. “In certain circumstances when Autosteer is engaged, the prominence and scope of the feature’s controls may not be sufficient to prevent driver misuse,” the NHTSA said in a statement.
