[Hypegolf] December 14, 2023 Weekly Digest 💔 Are Tiger Woods and Nike Finished? TLDR: The golf world has been spinning ever since the "No Laying Up" podcast reported that this week's PNC Championship could be the last time that Tiger wears the Swoosh on the PGA TOUR. Why It Matters: Normally when the only source for a juicy rumor is a podcast, it's fair to raise an eyebrow, but "No Laying Up" has a history of breaking important golf news before. So when they suggested that one of the most successfull and iconic player/sponsor relationships in the history of sports could be coming to an end, people listened. Since the initial story broke, there have been more whispers tying the news to a wider overhaul at Nike Golf which could see it merge with Srixon. Clearly there's still more to unpack. The contract reportedly includes a $300 million USD signing bonus, plus equity in a new team that catapults the value to $600 million USD. Why It Matters: Up to this point, detractors of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf could hold on to the criticism that most of its players were either washed up, or signed for the league during a period of rough performance. But Jon Rahm is without doubt one of the top players in the world, and at 29 years old you could argue he's still only just scratched the surface of his full potential. The $500 USD Kirkland Signature Players Irons promptly sold out within hours. Why It Matters: Costco has released golf equipment before. It's golf balls, for example, have long been a favorite of those looking to save money on the big names like Titleist, Callaway and TaylorMade. And the brand's golf equipment has achieved something of a meme-like status these days which, ironically enough, has made it so that people are buying up sets and then listing them on eBay for twice what they paid originally. Check it out [here](. --------------------------------------------------------------- 🇨🇦 Forden Golf Delivers Core Pieces in Its Latest Collection Drop TLDR: The Montreal-based Forden Golf has delivered its biggest collection yet since launching, built around core pieces that can be mixed and matched with more adventurous styles. Why It Matters: The streetwear golf space has all of a sudden become quite competitive, and it's not so easy to stand out these days. But the first thing that jumped out to us about Forden was its distinctive Swingman logo, and we enjoy the vintage inspiration behind its campaign shoots. The products are the main attraction though, and Forden insists on using a natural fibers for its core pieces, but varying weights of fabric are used with consideration for utility. Why It Matters: Last year it was the AJ12 Low G, and this year the 6 has clearly been Jumpman's go-to on the links. The silhouette has now seen a wide variety of interpretations in the last 12 months, from a patriotic "Olympic" colorway, to an airbrushed purple colorway for the US Open and a "Bordeaux" version with faux condensation. For sneakerheads out there, it's interesting to think about especially as initial glimpses are seen of the AJ9 Low G as worn by Harold Varner III.
