ð Two German Tourists Vandalize Florence Vasari Corridor TLDR: German students defaced Florence’s historic Vasari Corridor along the river Arno. Why It Matters: The incident occurred earlier today at 5:20am (local time), when the two unnamed suspects, who were a part of 11 students staying in one of the city’s Airbnb’s, vandalized the 460-year-old corridor by spray-painting “DKS 1860” — which refers to the German football team, TSV 1860 Munich. While it is unclear, and highly unlikely, that the students were actually affiliated to the third division club, Florence mayor Dario Nardella lambasted the incident, calling it a “shameful act of vandalism.” Over $10K USD in Repairs: "Built in 1565 by Italian Renaissance painter and architect Giorgio Vasari, the Vasari Corridor was once a secret passageway connecting homes in the Boboli Gardens to what is presently the Uffizi Galleries, which at the time was a governmental building for the ruling Medici family. The suspects in question, aged 20 and 21, were tracked by surveillance footage from Italy’s Carabinieri military police. Authorities estimate that the damage to the corridor will amount to $10,800 USD in repairs. Read the full article [here](. ---------------------------------------------------------------

Why It Matters: Heading to Toronto’s Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), KAWS: FAMILY features artist Brian Donnelly’s renowned larger-than-life sculptures and paintings of his iconic characters. The exhibition, which is curated by Julian Cox, AGO’s Deputy Director and Chief Curator, features over 70 artworks from the artist’s past two decades. The curation involves a series of encounters, with families of related pieces installed across the second level of the museum. Larger than Life: Amongst these displayed will include the larger-than-life wood sculptures and augmented reality installations. Works in bronze, wood, on paper and canvas, plus toys and stainless steel will be exhibited. Adapting features from popular American cartoons, KAWS figures come in various poses, forms and sizes. At the center of the exhibition is the FAMILY (2021) piece, alongside a painted bronze sculpture featuring COMPANION, a figure with crossed out eyes inspired by early American rubber hose animations, a bulbous figure named CHUM and a fur-covered character named BFF, posed together in the style of a studio portrait. ð´ Patrick Martinez Is Redefining the Genre of Landscape TLDR: For 'Hypeart Visits,' we caught up with the LA-based artist to learn about the way in which he approaches material and how he uses his practice as a form of cultural preservation. Why It Matters: For Los Angeles-based artist Patrick Martinez, landscape paintings are more than just a way to depict a scene. They represent a form of preservation and a call for urgency. Part mural, sculpture and installation, Martinez has unconsciously redefined the traditional boundaries of landscape paintings through multi-media works that quite literally transport you to the physical place he has in mind. Championing Accessibility and Diversity: Just under 43 years of age, his work has featured in both solo and group exhibitions across the globe, including acquisitions by LACMA, Crocker Art Museum, Cornell Fine Art Museum and the Pizzuti Collection, amongst others. “It’s important for me to talk to someone that doesn’t want to come into a museum or that doesn’t care to,” Martinez notes as he sits painting his latest sculptural installation. “The neons are kind of that, they hang in windows to try and communicate to a passerby.” Read the full article [here](. ---------------------------------------------------------------
