💌 Tobey McIntosh’s Nike SB Dunk Collab Is a Love Letter to His Community TLDR: Linking up with Nike, the Crenshaw Skate Club’s founder rolls out an SB Dunk Low collab and discusses the shoe’s symbolism and the importance of inclusivity and representation. Why It Matters: Tobey McIntosh moves with passion and purpose. Thanks to skateboarding and the natural sense of independence and creativity that it fosters, he’s built his skate-focused label Crenshaw Skate Club — a platform for him to champion skateboarding culture, give back to his local community and express his unique design language. And this weekend, its latest creative venture will be hitting the masses: a Nike SB Dunk Low collaboration. Full Circle: Through this project, McIntosh brings inclusivity and representation to the frontlines. Similar to his Air Jordan 36 Low PE from 2022, the kicks are ornamented with playful graphics, hidden quotes and a blend of materials that pay homage to his Crenshaw roots, but in a way that doesn’t overshadow the heritage of its canvas. "It feels surreal. Looking back on the days that I was sneaking around and skating in my mom’s Dunks, I never thought that I would have a Dunk collaboration of my own," said McIntosh. 🕵️‍♂️ How Gen-Z Became a Generation of Grail-Finding Fashion Archivists TLDR: Gen-Z waves good bye to today’s luxury landscape, favoring old Raf Simons, Vivienne Westwood, Prada, FENDI, Marc Jacobs and JPG as a result of today's economic climate. Why It Matters: In 2022, the Retail Intelligence Platform EDITED discovered that luxury prices had climbed by 29%, and today, things are only worsening as the economy heads deeper into financial trouble and high inflation. EDITED then looked into how Gen-Z consumer habits, notably sustainable reselling, is the way forward, and that with the power of “Quiet Luxury” came a slew of young fashionphiles ditching fast fashion in order to save and spend their money on wears that will last a lifetime. Setting The Tone: What does this mean for the fashion industry? Yet again, it’s time to listen to Gen-Z consumers. It’s the new generation, the one driving more than just political and societal trends, but every aspect of life from what drinks to drink, what food to eat, what music to listen to, what words to say (or not say), and of course, what to wear and how to wear it. Instead of keeping up with the Joneses and playing into capitalism, perhaps we should all start to look back at the foundations of fashion, thus democratizing luxury and streetwear codes to create a fairer, fun fashion space for all. ⛰️ Everyday is an Adventure for Nicolas "Yuthanan" Chalmeau TLDR: The designer walks us through how he embraced the country of Japan and its core values to build Sillage, a more meaningful clothing brand, and what's in store for the future. Why It Matters: Nicolas Chalmeau, better known by his middle name, Yuthanan, wasn’t built for the nine-to-five, not in the traditional sense at least. Instead, he always followed his passions, to the point where they took him over 6,000 miles eastward where he met his wife and began his label, Sillage. The brand is very much a reflection of Yuthanan’s far reaching interests—from Indian and Indonesian textiles and spiritual objects found across Africa and the Middle East, to his own French heritage and the craftsmanship well-revered in Japan. Shape of His Own: As the brand’s motto goes, Sillage is “Inspired by the world, made in Japan,” a simple but powerful ethos that has galvanized a like-minded collective of people from across the globe. Instead of following the fashion cycle, he releases small capsules throughout the year to better match the many ideas that orbit in his mind. Amongst many things, Yuthanan is living proof that you can follow your passions and galvanize a global community, regardless of your background or level of expertise.
