ð¥ Pharrell's SS24 Louis Vuitton Debut Was Nothing Short of a Spectacle Bringing a star-studded affair to Pont Neuf, Paris. Why It Matters: The long awaited debut of Pharrell Williams' debut as the new Louis Vuitton Menswear creative director is finally here and it did not disappoint. Bringing all the stops, Pharrell brought his global audience to the Pont Neuf bridge in Paris to present his first collection for the French luxury house. From beginning to end, guests were given an unforgettable experience that began the moment they received the invite for the Spring/Summer 2024 collection. That's P, That's Damier, That's Love: Pharrell explains that the collection hinges on the idea of "LVERS," meaning that "if you appreciate Louis Vuitton, you're a lover of the curation. You love the product but deeper than that, it's a love for the culture that embodies a like-mindedness of taste." In the collection, Pharrell looks towards the iconic LV Damier chess board pattern. Incorporating the historic monogram with the Damier print, Pharrell fuses the old with the new, bringing a pixelated aesthetic to his first collection, "The fact that it has the chessboard setup, we could use the grid as a platform to play with different artistic techniques. The first was to treat the blocks like 8-bit Atari graphics. I worked with ET Artist, who's really good at it. The super powerful one is the Damoflage, which fuses Damier and camo. I wanted to make a print that makes people say, "Okay, that's P. And that's Damier." Read the full article [here](. ---------------------------------------------------------------
ð From the Vault to the Streets: the Nike (Mac) Attack Is Coming Back The first retro release of John McEnroe's cult-favorite signature sneaker is bridging the gap between OG tennis fans and the modern sneaker generation. Why It Matters: The Mac Attack, a cult classic Nike silhouette linked to hot-tempered and highly-skilled tennis legend John McEnroe is rising from the ashes. When the Nike Mac Attack first debuted in 1984, it went against the norm of traditional tennis footwear design. During this era, on-court models were usually fashioned with a minimal approach that mirrored the sport's simple style sensibilities: predominantly white presentations with minuscule splashes of color. Unlike the era's other silhouettes, the Mac Attack dared to be subversive. It was engineered with a slightly higher cut and formed with multi-paneled uppers, gray and navy color-blocking and checkered tongue banners that set it apart from a sea of plain shoes. Revival of the Unforgettable: The Swoosh officially announced the model's return with a campaign that featured Travis Scott and McEnroe with the lookbook's motto reading "Rebel like the OG" as it hearkened back to McEnroe's retro "Rebel With a Cause" poster ads. Positioning these "rebels" side by side bridged the gap between audiences from the past and present, the courts and the streets and the shoe's heritage and its future. Nike is determined to reestablish the Mac Attack's place in sneaker culture and pave the way for a new era of appreciation for its historical importance. You can't forecast how the Mac Attack will perform in today's sneaker zeitgeist, but the fact that it will finally be more accessible and consumers won't have to break the bank when paying resell for a pair is worth celebrating. Now would be an appropriate time to play Mark Morrison's most popular tune, because the return of the Mac (Attack) is here. ðï¸ Catching Up With Stormzy, Grime's Golden Child 10 years into the game, Big Mike sat down with Hypebeast to discuss his position as a gatekeeper in British music, grime's authenticity, and much more. Why It Matters: “I have no idea how I've gotten here.” This is the typically grounded response that Stormzy gave Hypebeast when questioned on how he's achieved his stratospheric level of success. The rapper – who is currently settling down after releasing his third studio album, This Is What I Mean – has become a mainstay in British music, using his grime roots and passion for writing to articulate the environment he grew up in, his relationship with God, and his tricky (and sometimes public) experiences with love. Grounded With Respect: When Stormzy came into the rap game, he offered something new. 2013 was a year packed with competitiveness in the grime scene following its fresh rebirth and Big Mike's Wicked Skengman series made the rapper become the new kid on the block. He used his robust rhymes to set the bar with a new approach to the genre, while still paying homage to the ones that came before him, spitting over classic grime instrumentals, from JME's "Serious" to Dot Rotten's "Rowdy Riddim." “When I first entered the game in 2013, I feel like every single point, every interview that I've had the opportunity to pay homage, show my respect, and give them their flowers, I've always done it because I am very much aware that no matter how far I've come, no matter what I've achieved, I'm standing on the shoulders of many people," Stormzy told Hypebeast.
