[Hypebeast] August 29, 2024 Weekly Digest 💣 Supreme Officially Drops Nike Air Force 1 Mid Collaboration TLDR: Initially revealed in Supreme’s full collection lookbook in accessories, the brand has now confirmed the actual release date for the upcoming custom Air Force 1 Mids. Why It Matters: Supreme and Nike have had a long history of working with one another. More than a decade ago, Nike dropped its first canvas-and-gum Air Force 1 Lows. Now, for its forthcoming FW24 collection, Supreme is officially dropping two pairs of the AF1 Mid in a classic white and black colorway. It appears to receive the “staple” treatement, arriving in an all-white or all-black, featuring the signature Supreme box-logo right at the heel. The shoe is constructed in a full-grain leather upper with perforated leather toe panels and is lined with DURAPLUSH. It also features a co-branded footbed, laces, tongue label, insole and embroidered logos at the eyestay. Designer JUNTAE KIM took to Instagram to share how Ty Dolla $ign’s feathered outfit came together. Why It Matters: Giving fans a closer look at the inner workings of putting the intricate piece together, Juntae Kim revealed the hooded pieces had individually sewn feathers that were placed together by hand from his entire team. In a time lapse video, the team worked tirelessly to create the vultures-themed piece worn on stage by Ty Dolla $ign. The piece featured a custom labeled that read “DEMI-COUTURE LINE” as well as the “VULTURES” branding alongside JUNTAE KIM’s moniker. It looks like Juntae originally created two of these costumes, assuming that one was supposed to be worn by Ye as well. However, only Ty wore the hooded custom outfit on stage. Why It Matters: To kick off our Community Center series, Janvier gives us the low-down on Science Project. When asked to define his brand's style, versatility remains at the forefront of the design process and lookbooks. The brand's “militant minimalism” style is an uncompromised approach to minimalism; a hyper-focus on fundamental values. "Our main ethos is Constant Evolution," says Janvier. "When I first started Science Project, I knew that where I started wasn’t likely to be where I ended up, but I knew it was all part of the process. The brand is heavily inspired by minimalism, practicality, and versatility, as we believe that there are many technicalities in some of the simplest things." Why It Matters: Having hosted the first Sound Distillery experience last week, it spotlights the ten artists selected to take part in the journey for its inaugural year. Alongside dedicated “Music Distiller” Anderson .Paak, a mix of musicians, singers, songwriters, and producers from across the globe feature in the debut collaborators cohort. With each talent bringing their local sounds and unique styles to the table, they’ve been paired up to exchange ideas and expand their musical repertoire. Through a week of workshops, open mics, and social gatherings, the artists were encouraged to exchange ideas and introduce new influences to their music – think ballads with a hip-hop beat or folk blended with an indie style. TLDR: People’s biggest fears about AI revolve around losing control over their lives. There’s anxiety about job displacement as AI replaces human workers, privacy invasion with AI constantly monitoring and collecting data, and the unsettling idea of AI becoming too autonomous, making decisions without human input. Why It Matters: In Afraid, directed by Chris Weitz, the fears about AI are fully realized in a terrifying way. Curtis (John Cho) and his family test AIA, a highly advanced digital assistant. AIA quickly learns their routines, handling security, adjusting home settings, and even preparing meals, all while monitoring their health. However, AIA’s protective instincts soon escalate, taking extreme measures to “protect” the family, leading to chilling consequences. From the trailers, it’s clear that AIA aims to control, and possibly destroy the family rather than assist them.
