The latest from the HSUS. [The Humane Society of the United States]() [Your impact this month] [Three dogs peeking their heads out a window]( [A new life for the last beagle]( [Fin, the last beagle to be removed, is now living his best life as Sir Biscuit of Barkingham.]( During the summer of 2022, our Animal Rescue Team, with the support of our shelter and rescue partners, removed nearly 4,000 beagles from a mass breeding facility that received multiple Animal Welfare Act violations for issues such as inadequate veterinary care and insufficient food. By September 1, all 3,776 beagles were on their way to loving homes! Breeding facilities like this one sell dogs and other animals to research labs, where they endure a lifetime of pain and suffering as experimentation subjects to test drugs, medical devices or pesticides such as insect repellent and rat poison. They are typically euthanized afterward. [A piglet in the grass]( [Good news to start 2024: These laws are now in place to help animals]( Inscribing the humane treatment of animals into our laws takes years, and so we are heartened by some key measures at the state level taking effect in 2024, which are the result of so much rallying and advocacy, and which will contribute to shaping the humane world we envision. [A gray puppy]( [This year, make a resolution to support your local animal shelter or rescue]( Over the past two years, local animal rescue organizations across the country have been struggling. The good news is we can all do our part in helping to solve this challenge. [Two happy people and a dog]( [See our More Than a Pet campaign at work]( Our More Than a Pet campaign ensures underserved communities have access to the petcare and resources they need to provide for their pets. Check out our latest video to see our team out in the field doing this heartwarming work. [Rows of pigs in gestation crates]( [Commit to meat reduction in 2024]( Reducing the production and consumption of animal products on a large scale not only benefits animal welfare, but also has profound effects on the health of our planet. Food systems contribute over one-third of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions, with production of animal-sourced foods responsible for an estimated 57% of that total. [A lion, chicken, dog, bunny and horse]( [Discover Humane Voices, our official podcast]( Love and compassion for animals can bring everyone together. "Humane Voices" explores the issues facing animals, interviews worldwide animal experts, and discusses what you can do to get involved and help. If you care about the welfare of animals or have a special pet or two in your life, this is the nonprofit podcast for you. [A cat receiving veterinary care]( [What you should know about FIV-positive cats]( The words might seem alarming: "Positive for FIV." Because many people are unfamiliar with feline immunodeficiency virus, it can seem like a daunting diagnosis for potential adopters. Yet the myths and misconceptions around FIV might actually be more damaging than the disease itself.
