The latest from the HSUS. [The Humane Society of the United States]() [Your impact this month] [Billy and his dog Copperhead]( [A heartwarming look at our Pets for Life program at work]( Billy came into our Pets for Life office in Los Angeles to express his gratitude for our support. 4 years earlier, we helped him and his beloved dog, Copperhead, who were both experiencing homelessness for about a year and a half. Copperhead had sustained serious injuries from an attack, and we covered the cost for surgery, food and other resources. [See the touching moment that Billy showed up at our office to greet Robert Sotelo, from our Pets for Life program, after 4 long years.]( You'll also see heartwarming moments with Pets for Life client, Lucero, who has become an ambassador in her community, helping to connect people with the resources they need for their beloved companion animals. [Toby the cat before and after]( [Toby is now the "center of attention"]( In January 2023, our Animal Rescue Team responded to an alleged cruelty and neglect case in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, where more than 170 cats, including Toby, were trapped in horrific conditions. After finding Peggy and Joe, he's now thriving in his new life where he gets all the love and care that cats deserve! [Two dogs surrounded by rubble being helped by rescuers]( [How the Humane Society family helped animals in 2023]( Writing our annual year-end review is no easy task. Normally, we sift through mountains of data. This year, however, we tried something different: We asked staffers around the world to share the moments that they found most meaningful or impactful in 2023. We hope you enjoy their reflections! [Breezy the dog before and after]( [Breezy's incredible transformation]( We rescued Breezy, along with over 100 other dogs, from a breeder's property in Hertford County, North Carolina. The dogs appeared to suffer from a lack of basic care and were living in hazardous conditions typically seen in severe neglect situations. After receiving care, Breezy was adopted and is now named Quincy. She has an amazing family and a whole new life with lots of love! [A photo of Jane Goodall]( [Exclusive interview with animal activist Dr. Jane Goodall]( When a young Jane Goodall entered the forests of Tanzania to study wild chimpanzees, no one could have imagined the influence she would have. Today, Goodall—Ph.D., DBE, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, and United Nations Messenger of Peace—is recognized as a source of hope that change is possible. In this interview, Goodall discusses the power of storytelling and where she finds hope for the future. [HSUS holiday e-cards]( [Give the animal lover in your life a gift with impact]( Do you want to feel warm and fuzzy all holiday season? Give the gift of compassion! Send your favorite animal lover an e-card today by making a heartfelt donation in their name. [Lolo the chimpanzee in front of trees]( [Update on Second Chance Chimpanzee Refuge in Liberia]( A new construction project underway at HSI’s Second Chance Chimpanzee Refuge will ensure caregivers can safely provide enhanced medical attention to the chimps who depend on them for care.
