The latest from the HSUS. [The Humane Society of the United States]() [Your impact report.] [A little white fox kit]( [In a win for animals, California’s ban on fur officially takes effect]( Californians can now officially celebrate [the end of fur sales in the Golden State](. A statewide ban on the sale of new animal fur products went into effect on Jan. 1, 2023, making California the first state in the U.S. to implement such a ban. Its citizens have waited more than three years for the new law to take effect after legislators passed AB 44, sponsored by Assemblymember Laura Friedman. The law, which makes it illegal to manufacture or sell a new animal fur product in California both through brick-and-mortar and online sales, included a phase-in period, giving retailers time to adjust and shift their inventory to fur-free products. [A beagle puppy being hugged]( [He wasn't a "puppy person" until he met Enzo]( Enzo was one of 3,776 beagles our Animal Rescue Team, with the support of our shelter and rescue partners, removed from a mass breeding facility that received multiple Animal Welfare Act violations for issues such as inadequate veterinary care and insufficient food. [A black bear and their cub]( [Big step forward in fight to ban extremely cruel hunting methods]( A new National Park Service proposed rule marks a substantial step forward for some of our nation’s most iconic wildlife species, including brown and black bears and wolves. The NPS rule would ban certain extremely cruel methods of trophy hunting and trapping on Alaska’s national preserves. [Kitty Block and a rescued beagle]( [At our care and rehabilitation facility, recovering dogs have their day]( The animals who pass through this facility have been rescued by our team from truly horrific situations, whether they were saved from disasters, suffered abuse or neglect, were sent into the ring to fight one another or experienced other awful situations. [Three dogs in a mill]( [New Animal Welfare Act regulations would improve the lives of so many animals in need]( We welcome the recent announcement by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that it is seeking input to enhance regulations and standards for animals covered under the AWA. [A sad looking chimp]( [Judge rules that the National Institute of Health's refusal to move chimps from a New Mexico laboratory to Chimp Haven sanctuary violates federal law]( There is renewed hope for 30 chimpanzees languishing in a New Mexico laboratory as part of our long-standing fight to give chimpanzees who were subjected to experiments a chance at sanctuary life. [Collage of a lion, chicken, dog, bunny and horse]( [Looking for a new podcast this year? Check out the official podcast of the Humane Society of the United States]( If you care about the welfare of animals, or have a special pet or two in your life, this is the nonprofit podcast for you. Our first episode of 2023 is on cat cafes!
