Tell Congress that captive primates need more protection! [The Humane Society of the United States]() [A young chimp]( {NAME}, HBO’s new docuseries Chimp Crazy highlights the cruelty and dangers of keeping chimpanzees and other primates as “pets.” Purchased as cute and manageable infants, these wild animals inevitably become aggressive, unpredictable and territorial as they mature, often attacking their owners or other people. Keeping them in a home, restraining them with a collar and leash, or treating them like surrogate children doesn't change that. Even the smallest monkeys are incredibly strong and can inflict serious injuries. Chimp Crazy highlights the humans who hold these complex animals captive, those who have been seriously injured by captive primates and the animals who have suffered tremendously as a result. [Please urge your legislators to support the Captive Primate Safety Act, which would prohibit the trade and private possession of nonhuman primates as pets.]( Primates suffer enormously when kept as pets. These captive situations do not meet the animals' very complex needs, often denying them mental stimulation, proper nutrition, interaction with others of their kind, and the ability to express natural behaviors.
