A major victory for thousands of beagles who suffered in this breeding facility. [The Humane Society of the United States]() [Kitty Block holding a rescued beagle]( {NAME}, The U.S. Department of Justice has announced that Inotiv will pay more than $35 million, including an $11 million fine for violating the Animal Welfare Act, the largest in the law’s history, and $7 million to improve their facilities using or breeding animals. Inotiv is the parent company of Envigo RMS, which owned a dog breeding facility in Virginia where the violations occurred. In 2022, we removed and transported more than 4,000 beagles from the facility. Our teams coordinated the placement of these dogs with our invaluable shelter and rescue partners so they could become loving and loved companion animals. In addition to the fines, Inotiv has agreed to stop breeding or selling dogs for animal testing and all their facilities using animals must meet standards that exceed the Animal Welfare Act. This is a huge win! The transfer of those thousands of beagles from Envigo was already a historic moment in our collective fight against animal cruelty and the use of dogs in testing. This settlement is historic in its own way as it sends a clear message that there is a tremendous cost for animal cruelty. Victories like this are made possible by our passionate donors and dedicated action takers. Thank you for your support. Let's win more big fights, together!
