The latest from the HSUS. [The Humane Society of the United States]() [Your impact this month] [Two dogs pressing against a fence]( [Breaking: Our rescue team saves more than 200 dogs from two Oklahoma puppy mills]( Early on a recent Monday morning, [our Animal Rescue Team arrived at two properties in Milburn, Oklahoma, with officers from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office]( who served search warrants as part of an alleged animal cruelty situation. Law enforcement requested our assistance with rescuing hundreds of dogs from two dog breeding operations. Despite all they've been through, some of the dogs jumped up at the sight of people and leaned their paws on the chain-link sides of their cages. Many were eager for attention and gave responders licks and tail wags as they were removed from their enclosures. Others stared out plaintively, huddling together. Both breeders have claimed online to be American Kennel Club-affiliated, and one of the breeders had puppies listed for sale on the AKC’s Marketplace website. Our team found that dogs and puppies at these two large-scale puppy mills were lacking proper veterinary care, some with only spotty access to shelter and clean water. With your support, the dogs are getting the care and veterinary treatment they need. [Liea the dog]( [Leia: Rescued from a puppy mill]( This is Leia, one of the dogs we saved in our recent rescue in Oklahoma. Despite what she's been through, she was all tail wags and sweetness. Check out her heartwarming story! [A mink on a fur farm]( [The number of US mink fur farms plummets as consumers reject cruelty]( The newly released numbers show that while in 2017, 236 mink fur farms existed in the U.S, five years later, only 110 mink fur farms were in operation. With the speed of this decline, we believe even more mink farms have closed in the last year. [A guinea pig in the grass]( [Good news! Washington becomes 12th state to ban sale of animal-tested cosmetics]( Washington became the 12th U.S. state to pass a law to ban the sale of cosmetics newly tested on animals. This is a win for all the guinea pigs, rabbits, mice and rats who will never have to suffer through painful testing, including having cosmetics chemicals forced down their throats, dripped into their eyes or smeared onto their skin. [A person in a blue shirt holding a dog]( [California introduces groundbreaking housing bill to keep people and pets together]( We are sponsoring a bill, AB 2216, with Assemblymember Matt Haney, from San Francisco, that would create better to access rental housing in California by prohibiting blanket pet bans and requiring landlords to have reasonable justification for not allowing a pet in a rental unit. [A group of chickens on a factory farm]( [40% of hens used for eggs in the U.S. are now cage-free]( We just hit another milestone in our work to improve the lives of farm animals: According to the latest statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 40% of hens used for egg production in the U.S. are now cage-free. [Two pigs eating in a yard]( [Explore Black Beauty Ranch in the latest issue of All Animals]( Our spring magazine takes you across the 1,400 acres of our sanctuary to learn how the dedicated team members provide food, water, habitat and enrichment to more than 650 animals from a vast range of domestic and exotic species.
