[Which is more comfortable and quiet, the SEAT Ateca or Volkswagen Golf Estate?](
Posted by on 23 June, 2017
My 10 year old Peugeot 307 SW, which I have enjoyed, needs replacing. Both the new SEAT Ateca 1.4 petrol DSG (18-inch wheels) and the new Volkswagen Golf Estate 1.5 petrol DSG (16-inch wheels) suit my needs on paper as regards to space and driver assistance packages. I've driven the Ateca and I'm waiting to drive the Golf. Apart from space and specs, a quiet comfortable ride is very high on my needs list. Without the ability to test drive the two vehicles "back to back" on the same roads I expect to find it hard to compare between them. Logic suggests that on wheel/tyre size alone the Golf should be the winner for comfort and quietness although there are clearly other factors that effect ride comfort. I would very much value your opinion as to which vehicle is likely to be the most cosseting.

[Van engine has failed after ten months of sale - is the dealer liable for repair costs?](
Posted by on 23 June, 2017
My friend bought a used 2012 plate Ford Transit for her business in September 2016 for £6000 from an independent trader. After 10 months of ownership the engine has blown and it will need a reconditioned one. This is likely to cost around £2500. What, if any, are her rights to repair or refund?

[Should I sell my diesel Mercedes-Benz A-Class?](
Posted by on 23 June, 2017
My car is a Mercedes-Benz A220 CDI auto. It has most optional extras and I've owned it from new. It's done 15,000 miles and will soon need an MoT, major servicing and two new tyres. Whilst I have enjoyed the car, I'm wondering if I should trade-in the car since it will soon be out of warranty and other purchased warranties (wheel and tyre damage, GAP insurance, paintwork protection) will have lapsed. The car could soon start costing money for all sorts of things previously covered. The other factor which is beginning to weigh heavily is the fact that my car has a diesel engine. Any advice, please?

[Our Honda Concerto has been stolen and insurer isn't helping - what should we do?](
Posted by on 23 June, 2017
Our treasured Honda Concerto with mileage of 27,499 has just been stolen. We are receiving shoddy service from Direct Line despite being long time customers with fully comprehensive insurance. Could you give us some guidance on what we should look for? We have been told that even if the car is found it i unlikely to be usable or repairable. It also appears that they may have some difficulty in restoring us to the position we were in prior to the theft. Accordingly, any guidance you can give us on any financial settlement would be of great assistance.

[Should I get a petrol Peugeot 308 or a Toyota Auris Hybrid?](
Posted by on 23 June, 2017
I'm waiting to view and test drive a Peugeot 308 Allure 1.2 (130) auto that is being moved to a more local dealership. It's a 2015 reg with only 4000 miles for £10,400. It looks a lovely car but I have also seen a 2013 Toyota Auris Hybrid Excel with 36,000miles for £10,000. You rate both cars quite highly. I mainly dive in the city and probably a max of 10 miles a day at the moment. I take a 240 mile journey about three to four rimes a year. My sensible head say the Auris is best for my type of driving but then I think I don't do that many miles so it doesnt really matter. Can you please help me make my mind up between the two?

I've been living in Australia for the last three and half years. I'm 48 years old and have had eight years no claims bonus, but I've spoken to an insurance company and they have advised me that my no claims bonus is not valid anymore. I have been quoted over £2000 pounds for insuring an Audi A4. Please can you advise me if this is true and can I get help to get cheaper insurance?

[Is it normal practice to sign a credit agreement to have my car repaired?](
Posted by on 21 June, 2017
Several weeks ago another vehicle ran into the back of my car causing minor damage; cracked number plate and small star shaped crack to bumper. Insurance is with Hastings, who have passed me onto Auxillis, who want me to sign a credit agreement to get my car repaired and a hire car. I have never experienced this before with car insurance and am reluctant to sign a credit agreement to repair my car which will leave me liable for all cost even though it seems a clear cut third party fault. Is this normal practice and should I sign? If not, can my insurance refuse repair?

[Could I be prosecuted during the two minutes of the year that I'm not insured?](
Posted by on 21 June, 2017
I've just renewed my insurance with Be Wiser for the forth year in a row. I just noticed that the cover for this year ends at 23:59 on 3 July 2017 and the new starts on 00:01 on 4 July 2017. That leaves me uninsured for two minutes. What happened if I have an accident or get stopped with the police at this time? Technically, could I be prosecuted or have a claim refused?

[Old cam belt caused engine failure - is the dealer liable for repair costs?](
Posted by on 21 June, 2017
I bought an old motorhome last August and the dealer did quite a bit of work on it prior to collection. He paid for a service and cam belt change at his usual local garage. However, the cam belt tensioner failed in May and caused major top end damage. The belt was inspected by an independent garage and is definitely not new, therefore I can assume the tensioner bolt is also old (hence the failure). I've contacted the motorhome supplier, who is slow in responding. As I did not pay for the cam belt change (which was not carried out), what legal options do I have?

[Could you suggest a large replacement for my Hyundai i30?](
Posted by on 21 June, 2017
I think the time has come to replace my 2008 diesel Hyundai i30 2.0-litre CRDI. Over the last two years the fuel pump failed, then the turbo and now the air con condenser at approx £250 to replace. I'm not bothered by 'bells and whistles' or badges, I just want a comfortable, large cabin - but I suppose my car style is now 'old fashioned'. I want four doors with reasonable access for two oldies to get in the rear and probably petrol engine as I'm not doing the miles now. I have no idea about engine size - just something that has a bit of poke for motorway driving. I won't be looking at new - probably pre-reg or one year old. Any suggestions to get me started on the search would be greatly appreciated.
