She would like an automatic, a rear view camera and heated seats. Ideally a petrol/hybrid, but an electric car or just petrol is OK too. She could not get comfortable in a Smart Four-Two. Parts were not fitted as well as accessories missing. However, on complaining it appears that some rubber plugs to chassis had not been fitted. My concern is that the car has been used in lots of wet weather over the winter months as well as done 2,000 miles, the plugs are now fitted and I'm worried that water, road salts and grit etc may have entered the chassis and then sealed in with the plugs and that premature rusting from inside the chassis may be accelerated due to this. On the face of it, the vehicle was ideal and we agreed to meet half way for me to inspect the car and, if satisfied, do the deal. The vehicle was indeed very tidy and we agreed the price with an undertaking that he would take it back if I was dissatisfied. Before I had driven the vehicle he asked me to sign a form that I had tested it and was satisfied. On the drive home the oil pressure light came on, and my local motor engineer confirmed that the vehicle was using a lot of oil. I contacted the seller who is proving reluctant to reverse the sale: he wants several hundred pounds for collection, plus a £1.49 charge per mile for my usage subsequent to the sale. Do I have any redress, because, as a dealer, he was obviously aware that the vehicle was faulty? Or do I need to accept that my gullibility is my loss? I had been averaging around 34/33 mpg until recently. My fuel economy has dropped to 28/26 mpg. My route hasn't changed I believe I have been using the new petrol E10. Is this mpg drop to be expected with the recent formula change to petrol? If this is the case I would be using approximately half a gallon more petrol for every twenty pound spent at the pump. I don't see how this could be any benefit to the environment burning more fuel only an advantage to Government taxes and the fuel companies.
