[Can we scrap our car if it fails the MOT?](
Posted by on 22 October, 2020
My wife's Ford KA will be MOT'd next month and we feel it will fail on the bodywork. It'll need welding to pass, based on previous experience - so if this happens, we would like to take the car home and arrange for it to be scrapped. Can we legally do this?

[Why is there such a long wait for new electric cars?](
Posted by on 22 October, 2020
Just tried to buy a Peugeot e-2008 from my local dealer, it had done 250 miles and was their demonstrator. However, Peugeot has said they canât sell me that particular car. There is a six to seven-month wait for a similar vehicle. Can you recommend a similar vehicle in the same price range?

[What's the best electric or hybrid car for a long daily commute?](
Posted by on 22 October, 2020
What's the best electric or hybrid car for a 150-mile daily run? The main purpose is to reduce the monthly cost on fuel and balance that with the price of the car (either new/nearly new). Thanks.

[I want an off-roader. Can you suggest somewhere to find a good deal?](
Posted by on 21 October, 2020
We need a reliable, capable off-roader for farm and forestry work, and have decided on a new Toyota Land Cruiser Utility SWB 3-door 'van'. The best quote I can get from a Toyota dealer, including VAT, is £31,000. Are there any other purchase options in the UK you could suggest where I could get a better deal? Thank you.

[Will aftermarket accessories invalidate my warranty?](
Posted by on 21 October, 2020
I recently bought a brand new MINI Cooper. It doesn't have sat nav as standard so I bought the Mini Click and Drive base system from a company selling genuine Mini accessories. I also wanted to have a Nextbase dash cam installed so I contacted the MINI dealership from which I bought my car. The person I spoke to in the service department told me I could not get the Nextbase dash cam installed as this would invalidate my warranty. If I wanted a dash cam fitted it would have to be the Mini Advanced Car Eye. When I asked about getting the Mini Click and Drive system installed she immediately asked to see the purchase invoice for this. I've now bought the MINI Advanced Car Eye, again purchased from a supplier of Mini accessories rather than the original dealership. So I'm sitting here with two expensive pieces of MINI kit and I'm not sure about my rights as to where I can get these installed. If I go to a dedicated auto electricians to have these installed will this invalidate my warranty? Or, do I have to go back to the dealership where I bought the car but not the accessories and ask them to install them?

[Is an extended warranty worth buying?](
Posted by on 21 October, 2020
If you buy a used car from a big dealer in the UK, can you trust that they have done the proper checks on the gearbox etc? And would it be worth getting the extended warranty, as I read online that it's not worth the paper it is written on?

[Why won't stop-start work when it's cold?](
Posted by on 20 October, 2020
My 2018 Citroen C3 only does short journeys on average, say, 10 -15 miles. With the advent of the recent colder weather, the stop-start no longer operates at traffic lights and elsewhere. Any information or advice regarding dealing with this would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

[Will touching an infotainment screen while driving be banned?](

[Are old Land Rover Defenders actually selling for the inflated prices I see advertised online?](
Posted by on 20 October, 2020
Are old Land Rover Defenders actually selling for the inflated prices I see advertised online? Several years ago we had a Fiat 500 we wanted to sell. Prices were high online and on dealers forecourts, but we found when we advertised ours that there was very little interest and we traded it in instead. I wonder if it's the same with Defenders.

[How do I get handprints off my car's paintwork?](
Posted by on 19 October, 2020
I have a light silver BMW. It's parked on the street and the neighbourhood kids seem magnetically attracted to placing hands on it as do passers-by stopping to talk to each other, leaning arm prints on the roof and doors. They don't wash out and they can't all be sunscreen. Any ideas how to get these off? If anyone has a magical deterrent spray to keep humans off the car that would be useful, too.

[Which is better - the Skoda Octavia or Toyota Auris?](
Posted by on 19 October, 2020
I'm wondering about the long-term prospects of a 2014 Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI DSG (which I'm being offered, at a low price) vs those of a 2015 Auris Hybrid (which I have). The Octavia is a few months older, but near enough half the mileage of the Auris (which itself has only done about 23,000 miles). The Octavia is mostly a higher spec and a sharper (if slightly less economical) drive. Would it be madness to swap my Auris for the Octavia?

[I need a van but don't want to buy a diesel. Will it be hard to sell on in the future?](
Posted by on 18 October, 2020
I'm unable to find a petrol medium van but a van is just what I need. I was particularly interested in the Volkswagen Transporter but I really don't like diesels! Diesel engines seem to be on the way out, so how easy will it be to sell it in a year or two?
