I've cleared out the leaves and rubbish from the air intake under the bonnet and windscreen. The water in the footwell is quite considerable and is creating pools when the carpet is compressed. I am thinking of buying all these items for my 16-year-old grandson who is doing up an old Polo but would also like to service his mother's X-Trail. Would I also need to buy the rubber pads that everyone seems to mention. Or, what 3 tonne trolley jack would you recommend aside from the Sealey but in approximately the same price range. I asked my broker to provide evidence because I wanted to change to a different provider who had offered a better price. They refused and made it impossible but reduced the price of their offer. Does the new provider need to have evidence of NCB from me can they get it directly from the current/expiring provider? Most of our driving is local (in London) with at least eight trips to Manchester each year. We don’t have a pressure washer, but I think it’s not time to get one. What would you recommend for somewhere between £100-£150? Could you recommend an SUV that would be fairly economic to run (low tax and good fuel) if there is such a thing? It would probably have to be petrol or a non-DPF diesel as he only does about 9000 miles a year. His budget is about £5000. I have recommended he gets an estate car like a Skoda Octavia but he seems set on an SUV. I do 5k to 8k miles a year - mixed town and country and want something with a perky modern and economical engine. Would a Mondeo 1.5T EcoBoost do? Or something else to consider? I can spend around £10k. I was wondering what these "foam bags" are actually there for and would they be better not there at all (to prevent any possible trapping of water and dirt)? In the past three days I have managed heartbreakingly to kerb two of the wheels. In all my years of driving I cannot remember doing this before although I have never owned a car with big wheels. Is there anything that can effectively protect the wheels apart from not hitting kerbs? I had a puncture and found out that both tyres were disintegrating (cracks have appeared) and the front wall of one of the tyres has a tear about three inches long. One garage told me it's because I only use my car two to three times a week for short journeys and another told me that it's caused by corroded springs on my car. The tyre thread is about 6mm. Are they right? [Read more →]( [Could blocked drain vents be causing door lock problems on my SLK?]( Posted by on 27 November, 2019 My Mercedes SLK has a faulty driver's door lock. The door won't open straight away and takes many pulses of the key fob button. I had used WD40 on the locking solenoid, this worked better for a time, but is now just as difficult as before. I read recently of a similar problem on an SLK and they advised it could be blocked drains from the scuttle in front of the windscreen. If so, what's the remedy?
